Tragic News: Mother and 5-year-old Child Killed In Car Crash
A family has confirmed that Karla Mendoza aged 21 passed away on Friday night, after a car crash on southbound 99 near Taft Highway. Her five-year-old son also died in the accident.
Authorities said that just after 3:15 p.m. on Friday, Juan Garcia was driving his 2002 Jeep southbound on Highway 99, north of Highway 119 and slowed down to a stop in the center median divider. He then turned on his hazard lights to change a flat tire.
Daniel Mejia, 22 years old, was driving his car in the #1 lane at a high speed and hit the Jeep from behind. As a result of the slam, the Jeep took the huge damage and came to rest on its left side with people trapped inside.

The Jeep then caught on fire. Karla and her two young children were helped to get out of the car by the motorists, but unfortunately, the 5 years old kid named Emiliano could not survive.
Mejia was arrested on suspicion of driving after using alcohol.
He is held on $130,000 bail and is waiting to present himself in a Kern County courtroom this week.
