Whilst serving time as a missionary in Haiti in 2014, Sarah Conque met a child by the name of Nika who changed her life completely!
Nika’s skull is bigger than normal due to a condition that caused fluid to build up in her brain. In Haiti if you are disabled you are considered to be cursed and will be ignored or treated badly, therefore her birth mother was ashamed of her and didn’t want anything to do with her.
Nika was malnourished and neglected when she first came into Sarah’s care but is doing so much better now.
When Nika was born she only had a 3% chance to survive so she has certainly defied the odds. She is now happy and doing well!
Since she’s been in the U.S, Nika underwent her second neurosurgery and had a VP shunt implanted. Nika has lost five pounds in fluid weight and her head circumference has decreased by almost 2 inches.
As the sole caregiver of Nika, Sarah cannot work and solely relies on donations to cover all Nika’s medical and living expenses.
To ensure that Nika can stay in the U.S., Sarah is now concentrating on fundraising to get the necessary help. Local healthcare professionals and hospitals are all getting involved to ensure that all of Nika’s medical needs are taken care of. Sarah and Nika also travel to Florida for follow up visits with her dietician, neurosurgeon and pediatrician.
Amazing!
Let’s hope that we continue to see improvements about Nika!

Sarah C is an incredible human being. I’m sure it has been quite tough for them at times, but she is a role model to all of humanity. True love can be found in quite unexpected places. It was destiny!

This is such an incredibly touching and uplifting story about the strength of humanity, the depth of the human heart giving so much love and compassion to that sweet little baby girl’s will to survive! This type of miraculous story gives me a glimmer of hope for humankind. I truly could not believe the night and day difference in Lil Nika when she was older and much healthier. She looks like a completely different child. Miracles do happen! ♡

Parenting is a hard job and we often look at the parent before the child. However, we must face the fact that children must grow up. I work in Special Needs and have a special needs child as well. It is not an easy job on either side, so that we can only pray that Nika and children like her are properly taken care and not just for show. I cry many days when I see some of my students being neglected as they age. The bottom line is society still does look at disabilities with noses stuck in the air. I know because I have disability and I experience people’s ignorance daily. God Bless them both.

Ms. Sara I don’t know you but God knows you, and I thank him for people like you. You and Nika are truly a gift. I will be praying for your finances and Nika’s health. I would like to share your story in my church so the prays worries can pray as well. Remember when Jesus said when there are two or three gathered, there I will be also.
God bless you both. PRAYERS FROM BERMUDA..
