This Strange Looking Chair Is Helping Calm Colicky Babies
Deemed to be the best thing since sliced bread for mom’s with colicky baby’s, this odd looking chair known as the Babocush is believed to settle a baby – giving moms a bit of a breather.
My first born was colicky and the only thing which would settle her was if her head rested on my shoulder while being rocked back and forth, so the Babocush would have really come in handy for me, had it been around back then.

How does it work?
The Babocush basically offers another alternative to the usual rockers, bouncers and play mats where baby is lying on his back. The difference with the Babocush is that baby lies tummy down with his face to the side. The chair gently vibrates and the chair also mimics the sound of a heartbeat which gives baby the feeling of security which he had while being carried in the womb. A harness secures baby to the chair and his hands, feet, head and side of face is in contact with the babocush, which is believed to prevent baby from startling and provide relief from reflux, wind and colic.
The family owned business which introduced the Babocush also states on their website that “There has been a considerable increase in flat-head syndrome since the campaign to put babies to sleep only on their backs. However it is now apparent that this position puts pressure on the back or side of the head. Newborn babies skulls are so soft that flattening of the head will occur if not enough tummy time is provided.” The babcocush provides the opportunity for tummy time.
The company does however advise that the Babocush should not replace a baby’s cot or crib. The main purpose of the chair is to give exhausted parents a break by holding their babies safely and securely in a similar position as if he was being held.
The chair costs about $200.
What else can you do to calm a colicky baby?
1.Swaddling
Many babies like the secure feeling of being swaddled, especially while being rocked.
2.Massage
Lay baby down on his tummy across your legs and gently rub his back to help release gas.
3.White noise
A recording of rain or even the sound of a hair dryer or washing machine can calm a colicky baby. You can also purchase a white noise CD or download an app.
4.The Colicky carry
It sometimes helps to hold your baby so that his stomach rests on your forearm and head supported in the palm of your hand or the crook of your arm.
5.Rock or roll
If all else fails, rock your baby in your arms. Take him for a walk in his stroller or for a ride in the car. The steady rhythm of movement is very soothing for him.

I want an adult size for myself. I have such a hard time falling asleep with the stress of 3 year old twins and a 7 year old little girl.
