Pretty Jelly Sandals Leaves Toddler With Bruised And Bloody Feet
Jelly Sandals are quite popular this Summer and if you’re thinking of getting your daughter a pair, you may want to check them thoroughly before you let her wear them.
This is a warning given by a UK Mom, Lisa Connor, who claims that her 2-year-old daughter Esmé suffered some agonizing cuts and bruises after wearing a pair of jelly sandals for just 30 minutes.
The Sandals were apparently received as a birthday present and was purchased at Next, a popular English retailer.
When Lisa first put the sandals on Esme’s feet, she complained about it being uncomfortable but a couple of days later they tried it on again and they thought all was well. However, after just 30 minutes of wearing the sandals, she was in tears and had blood all the way around her ankle and on the soles of her feet.
The photo’s of Esme’s bloodied feet were shared on Social media and shows just how badly the sandals have hurt her. Her Mom hopes that by sharing those images, it will send a warning out to other parents who have bought or intend buying the sandals from Next.
The original post on Facebook (shown below) has been shared over 18,000 times and has comments with many differing views. Many are suggesting that the shoes were probably just too small for Esme’s feet while some parents are sharing their similar experiences with shoes from Next.
A comment from Vee Rapier says “Shoes look way to small you can obviously tell she’s cut her foot by one of the straps rubbing on the skin and the blood running down her foot hence the pool of blood, I’m sure if it was that serious you wouldn’t be taking pictures before actually removing the shoe! – people will do anything for money or a claim this being an example”
Another commenter JayJay Boo commented by saying: “Next” made my foot sore after 10 min of walking… Too me it’s a S**t brand for shoes, never bought next shoes again the thing is we adults can simply take off uncomfy shoes but kids can’t! “Next” should test those as safety for kids. I wouldn’t consider plastic something… Shoes safe on bare foot, even with socks they are uncomfy! I put blame on “next”!
Lisa reached out to Next and they agreed to examine the shoes to see what could have caused the cuts to Esmé’s little feet. A spokesperson from Next issued a statement thereafter which said:
“We are terribly sorry for the distress caused and we are taking this matter very seriously. We’ve asked for this pair of shoes to be returned so we can carry out a detailed inspection of this shoe, since this is the first complaint of this nature that we’ve received.”
It is still unknown whether Next stores will, in fact, be recalling the popular sandals.

Anything rubber or ‘jelly’ in the summer is going to rub. Especially on hot little toddler feet. Most ‘fashion’ footwear for toddlers are horribly ill fitting and do more harm than good for those growing feet. Poor little girl 🙁

Agree on the size for sure. My daughter could be bleeding enough to go to the hospital and not say anything or cry. However it’s my responsibility to make sure she’s wearing proper shoes

These used to cut me up as a kid but I looooooved them so I never told her they hurt my feet. She’s not a bad parent because she happened to miss something. There’s no need to mom shame. The plastic shoes should have been taken off the market ages ago, BUT if my kiddo wanted them badly enough, I’d probably give them a chance too. She hasn’t asked for money. She wants to company to inspect them and better their design. There’s no shame in that. Hopefully a better design comes out that doesn’t hurt or cut into skin like they have for decades.

Everyone knows these shoes rub and cut in to your feet.
I had them as a child (in the 80’s) and loved them but even with socks on and blister plasters they were hell to wear.

If you read the article, the sandals were a birthday gift. The first time she wore that hurt her feet, so they took them off. A few days later they tried again and they didn’t seem to both her, so they thought all was fine. I never had a pair growing up and I know they are coming back in style, but I will never buy they or let my daughter wear them. They look so uncomfortable.

Everyone is missing the point. Regardless how tight the shoes are,even if the mother strapped the shoes on tight they wouldn’t cause that unless they were robbing her skin. Did anyone think that maybe she could be allergic to an ingredient in the shoe?

I am 42 years old and my mother said the same thing happened to me when I was little she had to take me to the Doctors for medicine because my skin peeled off and my feet where full of blood.I guess it’s the rubbing against the foot.

Its not the shoes fault its the parents. The shoes are way to small for the child. If my child said it hurt after putting them on to make sure they fit I would immediately take them right off.
