Police Escort Toddler Cancer Patient To Her Last Chemo Treatment

2-year old cancer patient Mila Martineau from Massachusetts was pleasantly surprised by her community as she made her way to her final cancer treatment appointment last week.

As the neighbours cheered her on, police escorted the toddler to her chemotherapy session.

In January this year, Mila was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer called embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma and since then, Mila underwent grueling months of chemotherapy.

The Nahant Police Department posted about the good gesture on it’s Facebook page saying:

“This morning the Nahant Police Department had the privilege of participating in an escort to support one of our youngest residents, Mila Martineau. 2-year-old Mila was diagnosed with a rare form cancer and today has her final chemo appointment after 23 weeks of treatment. The Nahant Police Department is proud of you Mila!!”

Mila’s mother Jessica Martineau said that they had been looking forward to the end of the treatment – including the weekly back and forth to the city for the treatments at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Martineau was also overwhelmed by the support from her community. As they made their way to Dana Farber, the streets were lined with neighbors holding signs, a police escort accompanied them and even a fire ladder cleared the route.

“I was sobbing trying to drive my car,” she said. “I just appreciate where I live and the support.”

What an amazing gesture!
