Is It Playing God To Decide The Gender Of Your Baby?
Supermodel Chrissy Teigen, who’s also married to musician John Legend, is defending criticism they’ve been receiving for choosing the gender of the baby, the couple is currently expecting.
The couple was able to do the selection through genetic engineering during her in vitro fertilization (IVF) process, which is allowed in the United States.
The couple have been together for years. They actually started trying for a baby several years ago but were not successful. Desperately wanting to start a family together, they decided to seek fertility treatment and announced in October 2015 that they were expecting their first child.
Teigen told People Magazine “Not only am I having a girl, but I picked the girl from her little embryo. I picked her and was like, ‘Let’s put in the girl.’ ”
She also exposed the reason why she chose to implant the girl embryo. Teigen said she wanted Legend to get to experience the connection a father shares with his daughter.

When she made that statement, she did not realise the amount of negative attention it would attract.
Teigen responded to the backlash on twitter, stating “You’d be surprised at how many people you know go through this,” and “Also every doctor knows the sex of the embryos, it isn’t some grand secret.”
Teigen is not wrong – couples undergoing IVF treatment have access to this information. The gender is part of an elective IVF procedure called “Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis” (PGD), whereby a comprehensive chromosomal study of each embryo is conducted.
Although this may be true, there’s now debate around how moral it is to go through with the selection which God usually makes. Take a look at this video:
