Man Pleads Guilty To Killing His Daughter’s Molester So She Didn’t Have To Testify

An man from Alabama has just been sentenced to 40 years in prison after he plead guilty to killing the man who molested his daughter 16 years ago, so that she wouldn’t have to go through the trauma of testifying in court.

Julia Maynor is now reliving a past that she had hoped to put behind her. The now 24-year-old Mom of 3 was molested repeatedly by her grandfather while she was between the ages of 4 and 9.

Now, Julia’s father, Jay Maynor, plead guilty to shooting and killing the man that molested his daughter.

Jay Maynor plead guilty in the the first-degree murder of Raymond Earl Brooks in 2014.

Brooks, who had adopted Julia Maynor’s mother at birth, was previously convicted of the molestation.

Jay Maynor reportedly took a plea deal so that his daughter wouldn’t have to relive the trauma of her past abuse in court.

Raymond Earl Brooks, Julia’s grandfather, was sentenced for molesting his granddaughter in 2002 to 5 years in prison, but was released on parole after serving just 27 months.

“I’ve tried counseling and that didn’t work and it’s still here today. I relive it every day. I struggle to get out of bed in the morning,” Maynor told WVTM13 News.

The trial has also brought up memories for the young mother.

“I’ve overcome PTSD for a little while and now I’m having to re-overcome something that hasn’t happened in 14, 15, 16 years.” Maynor said to AL.com that the shooting, which happened in 2014, was prompted by something she said to her father.

“I haven’t seen Raymond in years,” Julia Maynor said. “It was just something I said out of anger to my father.”

Maynor doesn’t remember what she said, but it was enough for Jay Maynor to get on his motorcycle and confront Brooks.

He shot him twice in his front yard.

Julia believes that her father, who received a 40-year sentence for the murder as well as a 20 year sentence for attempted murder for shooting at a man he believed was abusing his stepdaughter, is simply too harsh, but she also thinks the punishment her abuser received was far too lenient.

“He took my innocence away and only served like 18 months, and now I suffer daily from what Raymond did to me,” Jullia Maynor said, adding she suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. “It’s not fair.”

Julia is just thankful for her father for taking the plea deal.

“Basically he took it so that I didn’t have to relive the molestation and also be on the stand in front of a bunch of people talking about and bringing back memories of the molestation,” she told AL.com.

“My father was protecting me, like a father should do. He is an amazing father — actually the best. He loves us so much.

Still, she admits to feeling guilty.

“I’m going thru hell,” Julia Maynor said. “Everything comes back to me as to why this has happened. I feel like it’s my fault. I’m sad but yet mad.”
