Dad Heartbroken When 7-Year-Old Son With Special Needs Has Rocks Thrown At Him. Pleads With Other Parents

Having a child can be difficult at the best of times. Having a child with special needs can be even more challenging. And having a child who is being bullied can be a very tough thing to go through as a parent.

Dan Bezzant knows this all too well unfortunately. Dan is a very proud father of 6 children, who recently discovered just how cruel and unaware some people can be.

Dan’s 7-year-old son Jackson suffers from Treacher Collins Syndrome, a condition that affects the bones and tissues of the face, and has been the victim of heartless bullying because of his appearance.

Due to the severity of his condition, Jackson’s face remains highly underdeveloped; it has left him almost deaf and has also affected his eyesight. The 7-year-old has already had several surgeries and as he grows up he will need more to correct the condition.

 

Jackson has been subjected to some cruel and merciless taunting from peers and classmates because of his appearance.  He has had rocks thrown at him from other children who have called him a “monster” and “ugly”.

As soon as he found out just how serious things were getting for his son, Dan took to social media in an attempt to reach out to other parents and educate them on just how bad things can be. Jackson’s daily torment left him feeling so low, he even considered suicide. For a 7-year-old, that is beyond comprehensible.

Dan shared a very heartfelt message to his Facebook friends back in September, pleading with them to educate children about special needs. His post has been shared almost 105,000 times by people and has received over 72,000 comments.

“My heart is in pieces right now…my soul feels like it’s ripping from my chest…this beautiful young man my son Jackson has to endure a constant barrage of derogatory comments and ignorance like I’ve never witnessed,” he wrote. Dan explains how his son is feeling, telling his father that he has no friends and that everyone hates him.

“Kids throw rocks at him and push him shouting these horrific words…please please take a minute and imagine if this were your child,” he pleads. Dan urges parents to talk to their children about “compassion and love for our fellow man,” and begs that we educate children about special needs.

His post has generated a hell of a lot of goodwill and compassion from others sympathizing with Jackson and all he is going through. “This is terrible and we need classes to educate kids about those that are different!!” said one user while another said “Jackson is a darling boy. I doubt there is anything meaner than young kids. It’s because they are too young for understanding how cruel words can be.”

Since posting his plea on Facebook the Bezzant family discovered that there are two other families in his community with a child that has Treacher Collins Syndrome. They organized a special get together for their children to form a play date.

“I am receiving constant messages of people sending love and prayers for Jackson. All I am asking is that you teach your children about bullying and making sure that kids understand that people are built differently and God loves us all,” Dan said.

The proud father has certainly played his part in shining awareness on bullying and by that he has helped his son. He also set up a ‘snail mail pen pal’ service for people to send his son letters in a further attempt to boost young Jackson’s self-esteem.
