Baby Dies After Being Left In Hot Car for 9 Hours At Texas Wal-Mart
A 6-month-old boy died Friday after being left in a hot car for nearly nine hours in the parking lot of a suburban San Antonio Wal-Mart.
The baby’s father, who works at the Helotes store, told investigators that he forgot to drop his son off at daycare, said Helotes police Capt. Anthony Burgess.
The baby was left in the father’s SUV from 6:15 a.m. to 3:09 p.m., when the father came out of work and discovered the child in the back seat, Burgess said.
Police and fire department crews responded, but couldn’t save the boy. Burgess said the father is not currently facing charges.
The father, who was hospitalized, was extremely shaken, but cooperative with police, according to NBC affiliate WOAI. He has not been named, but the baby has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as 6-month-old Dillon Martinez, the station reported.
The outside temperature in Helotes was more than 100 degrees on Friday, WOAI reported, and the temperature in a parked car can become fatal on even a 60-degree day, according to KidsandCars.org.
The child safety advocacy group reported that Friday’s incident marks the 27th hot car-related death of a child this year. Last year, 25 children died of heatstroke after being left in hot cars.

I think it is time for car makers to come up with something that ensures the temperature inside a car does not exceed a certain temperature. Shaded parking lots is another solution something on the light poles to give at least some shade options.

Good idea for car makers but it still doesn’t excuse this father’s behaviour. This makes me so mad!! How can a parent forget such a thing? Maybe you can forget for a few minutes but for a whole 9 hours?? That’s absurd. Poor child :–(

He did not “forget” his baby was in the car. No parent forgets their child is in the back seat while working for 4 hours, taking a lunch break and then working another 4 hours without remembering for a second they left the baby in the back seat. I’m sure he didn’t digest to eat during his lunch break. Premeditated murder is what this is and he will probably get away with it smdh!

Parents are responsible, not cars, nor parking lots. I couldn’t forget my dog in the car much less a child.

Its is a must, to have a plan in place. Ask the caregiver to contact the parents is the child does not show up on a scheduled day.
I forgot my daughter one morn’n, she was asleep, her dad usually took her to his parents. So I fell into routine and forgot until I got to work and stepped out of the car. My boss drove up at the same time and saw the surprised look on my face. He told me to go, go, go. Then all day he said its so good you noticed right away. From that day on he would check to see if I took her to her grandparents. This is heartbreaking

No I’m sorry but that father should be facing charges. I mean come on that POS forgets that his baby was in his car that’s bullshit please excuse my language but that’s murder n now he isn’t facing charges ? That pathetic piece of shit should be in jail n facing the death penalty accident or not that’s MURDER people. If he doesn’t get charged n next time it happens can’t charge the next person.
