7-Year-Old Becomes Youngest Girl To Climb Mount Kilimanjaro
A 7-year-old girl from Austin, Montannah Kenney, is now the youngest girl to climb Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Kenney says that she went on the trip because she wanted to have a fun adventure with her mom, and also be closer to her dad, who died when she was three years old.
“Because he lives up in heaven and Mt. Kilimanjaro is above the clouds and I wanted to be up there since I knew he was above the clouds,” Montannah said.
The mother and daughter spent six-and-a-half days going up the mountain during their spring break, and then just a day and a half coming down.
Montannah and her Mother spent a year planning the trip.
According to a GoFundMe page, Montannah’s father struggled with PTSD and was starting a therapy called eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, but was stressed about the costs to cover all the medical expenses.
The family hopes to raise awareness for the therapy and help cover the therapy costs for some.
