Even the most  prepared adult can struggle during pregnancy – so for this one young girl, Britain’s youngest mom, likely had a very difficult pregnancy.

At just 11-years-old it’s hard to even understand those changes that your body is going through and for Tressa Middleon the pregnancy was a result of family trauma, which made things 100 times worse.

Tressa Middleton became pregnant at only 11-years-old.

Now 24-years-old, Tressa has more children, but she has expressed heartbreak over the first child who she had to place for adoption when she was just a baby herself.

Can you imagine that for a moment? Everything that little girl went through and what she had to relive as an adult who was ready and willing at that time to bring children into the world. She has been pretty open about her life, and her first daughter. Now, the youngest mom is opening up about her heartbreak of missing her first born child, grieving the loss of her mother who supported her through those very challenging times. And raising two children as an adult.

“I remember one day my foster carers arranged a birthday party for me at McDonald’s and let me see my brother Jason,” Tressa explains. “He was a bit older than me but it was really good seeing him. After a year of care I returned home in Edinburgh. My mum was trying to get Jason back – and then he did come back to live with us when we moved to Arndale.”

In 2005, when she was only 11-years-old, she was living with her mother again and was raped by her brother, Jason, who was 16-years-old at the time.

When her daughter, Annie, was born, she found the courage to share who the father of her baby was.

“Later I was really drunk and I was at my friend’s house and I just broke down and told her that Jason was Annie’s dad,” she said. “She thought I was lying at first.”

Once the truth came out, authorities were called and after a trial in 2009, Jason was sent to jail for 4 years after DNA proved he was the baby’s father.

The baby, Annie, was taken into care at 2-years-old. The child was formally adopted in 2008. And now, 11-years-later, Tressa opens up more about that time in her life.

Life After

As you could imagine, Tressa had a hard time following the time her daughter was taken from her. She was in and out of foster care for 3 years and spiraled into alcohol and drug abuse. When she was 18-years-old, she met a boyfriend named Darren and was able to kick her drugs and alcohol addictions. She found herself pregnant again, but unfortunately it ended in a miscarriage. She said before that pregnancy ended, “It’s taken me back to how scared and confused I felt when I fell pregnant so young.

“Darren and I didn’t plan this baby, and I had very mixed feelings when I found out I was pregnant. On the one hand, I’m excited to be a mum again and get a second chance at happiness,” she continues.

“But part of me is scared. I went through so much the first time and was so completely heartbroken when they took her away, I couldn’t go through it all again.”

She confesses, “I still sleep with my first daughter’s teddy every night — I’ve never let go of the love I have for her.”

Tressa found herself pregnant with her fiance Darren after struggling to concevie after her miscarraige. During her pregnancy, she compared a lot of what happened during her first pregnancy and thought a lot about her daughter. “My little girl is 10 now. She’ll be 11 in the summer almost the same age I was when I fell pregnant.”

She continues, “it has made me realise just how young I was when all that happened. At the time I didn’t feel like I was that young because I had already been through so much but now, it makes me feel sick. No child should have that happen.”

Tressa, now 24 welcomed welcomed her second child, 8lb 1oz Arihanna on October 6 after a 24-hour labor with her fiance Darren. And there have been conflicting feelings that bring her back to life with her first child.

“I felt pure joy the moment Arihanna was born,” she says. “There were times I thought I’d never have another baby. But I also feel guilty, because Arihanna is with me and my older daughter is not.”

She continues, “She’s still the first thing I think about every morning and the last thing at night. I love her so much. I can’t be properly happy without her. It breaks my heart Arihanna will grow up without knowing her big sister.”
