Young Father Charged With Murder After He Admits To Punching 4-Month-Old Baby To Death
Most parents that I know, look forward to that moment when their babies finally begin to make sounds and ‘talk’ to them. Most parents will sit and listen to their babies babble on and on for hours, loving to watch them express themselves and find their little voice.
In this case – 21-year-old Cory Morris is not like most parents.
While he was home alone with his 4-month-old daughter Emersyn, the young father became so enraged when she wouldn’t be quiet that he d killed her with his own hands.
21-year-old Cory Morris was home with his 4-month-old daughter Emersyn while his girlfriend was at work. Morris was reportedly watching television when Emersyn began making “baby talk” as he explained to investigators.
Emersyn kept on babbling so Morris removed her from her baby swing, placed her on her change table and then punched her repeatedly.
Morris admitted to police and first responders that he punched his daughter approximately 15 times in the face and 7 times in the chest with a closed fist, then squeezed her chest with his hands in an attempt to quiet her. Her cause of death was ruled as blunt force trauma.
After he did this horrific act, he called both his mother and his wife and said, ‘I did something bad,’ but didn’t tell them what he actually did,” said Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, according to Fox 9 News.
The young father has now been charged with 2nd degree murder with many struggling to understand how someone can do something to heinous and violent to a baby.
“None of us can comprehend what this is all about,” Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said at a news conference. “And I’m a proud father of five and a grandfather of two. There’s nothing more important in my life than my children and my grandchildren. What is this? Why? Frankly, right now, we don’t know.”
“This is beyond comprehension.”Morris’s mother, Ginny Morris, says that they’ve been attempting to get her son help for some time now for depression and mental illness, but they never thought he would turn violent.
“We never thought he would hurt the baby. We would never allow him to be with the baby if that was the case,” Ginny Morris told the Star Tribune. “We were worried he was going to hurt himself, not the baby.”
Emersyn’s mother, Jenny Andersen, who had left her daughter with Morris 3-4 times a week while she worked, posted on her Facebook page about her horror.
“Saturday night I lost the sweetest little girl the world has ever know. She was left in the care of her father like normal while I was at work & he took her life. There are no words to describe the immense hurt I’m going through right now. Emersyn was my whole entire world & now she’s gone. My heart is absolutely shattered. The only comfort I have at all is knowing she’s safe with Jesus now. Mama loves you so much my sweet sweet girl, I will miss you & love you forever & ever.”
Morris, charged with 2nd degree intentional murder, is currently in jail, being held on a $2 million bail.
“Family members have suggested there may be mental health issues here,” Freeman said. “These will need to be evaluated during the course of this case.”
“But right now, we have charged him with second-degree intentional murder,” Freeman told reporters.
“And we’re just sad.”
