This Mother Found A Broken Pacifier In Her Baby’s Throat – And Now She Has A Harrowing Message For Us
This mom found her baby choking on MAM pacifiers on two different occasions. When they ABC news team looked into the case they found more than 10 other similar MAM complaints on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website. Watch the full report:
Via abc11
MAM responded to the various incidents which include a warning for parents:
MAM USA estimates that there are currently 12 million of its pacifiers in use in the U.S., and the company has never had to recall any of its pacifier products. The instructions that are included with each pacifier we sell — and posted on our website — direct parents to carefully inspect the pacifier and perform a “pull test” before each use – especially when the child has teeth; and to throw it away at the first signs of damage or weakness. We also instruct customers to replace the pacifier every two months to ensure safety and hygiene.
Is your child using a pacifier?
- If so, always remember to look at the age recommendation for the pacifier and make sure that it matches the age of your baby.
- Do the “pull test” recommended by MAM
- Keep the pacifier clean by washing it often in water (without any soap or harsh products)

Same thing almost happened to us. Same kind of pacifier. I noticed it was split before my son put it in his mouth – thankfully. I complained to the company and they replaced it.

I have used MAM for over 2 years, and am a proud supporter! We have bought probably a hundred, no joke! And have never hAd any issues with this brand. It must be an isolated issue. I realize as a pArent, it is frustrating not being able to get a company to ” take responsibility” as she says she wants. But, we have pacis still around thAt are over a year old, & are still fine. I think it’s just isolated, like I said. I prAy you get what you want from the company.

It’s kids that bite them, not the pacifiers itself. You didn’t have biters and these moms did. We used the soothie brand (the 18 month tougher kind) and one of my kids bit them and the other didn’t. Just depends on the kid.

We are also proud MAM supporters. We love them and have had absolutely no issues. It’s a good thing she caught it and no one was hurt. But you can’t bash the whole brand because of a couple manufacturing errors. Everything would be pulled off the shelves if we did that.
However it us a good lesson to check all of your pacifiers regardless of brand.

we have used mam pacifiers and I have thrown several away after noticing that they were cracking on the sides near the base-exactly where those pacifiers in the report were breaking off. at first I thought it was because maybe my son had chewed on them, even though I never noticed him doing that! now though, I’m not so sure!

If a company doesn’t stand behind their own products especially when it comes to kids, I will not use them. I tried MAM when I was still living in Scotland and it dummy broke so I tried a brand new one and it broke, I opened every mam dummy I was given, while my husband recorded it and tested them and each time they broke. We sent the video to Mam in Europe and they recalled those dummies because there was a manufacturing problem. Since than we have always used Nuk, who does stand behind their products as Nuk is part of Gerber, Graco also stands 100% behind their products. They replaced a baby swing when it broke with my daughter in it at 14 days old. I took her to the ER to have her checked out and when I got home I called Graco told them what happened and the next day my daughter had a new swing.
