Tommee Tippee Sippy Cup Horror

Recent photos shared on Facebook about a well-known sippy cup where mould was found growing inside, has sparked concern among parents.

Penny Powell, who’s post was shared over 100 000 times, wrote that her friend couldn’t figure out why his son always seemed to be sick for long periods of time, until he took apart his son’s sippy cup.

It appears that mould is building up inside the anti-spill top in the Tommee Tippee cups – a place where parents can’t see it unless they split open the mouthpiece. Given comments from other equally distressed parents, it seems that other sippy cup brands have similar issues too.

Tommee Tippee France has since responded to the controversy on social media, by apologising for the matter and explaining that they are ‘actively working’ on it as a r犀利士
esult of the feedback received from parents.

In a more recent post they indicated the following “ We’ve therefore listened to our customers, and will be launching a new Sippee cup in the next few months.The new cup will have a two piece valve that can be used with different types of liquid, and is easier to clean.” They also provide consumers with an option to return their old cups for a replacement or get transparent valves which will allow parents to see if there is any build up inside the valves – “Anyone that would like a see-through valve or alternative cup should contact our Careline toll free on 1-877 248 69221-877 248 6922 FREE, and one will be sent as quickly as possible.”

How to make sure that your child’s sippy cup is safe:

Instead of going for sippy cups with complicated mechanisms like this one, go for simple sippy cups and bottles which are easily taken apart and cleaned, so you can see if there’s any build-up of dirt or mould.

If your child is currently using a cup or bottle with a more intricate mechanism, it’s probably worth giving it a deep clean as soon as possible. Also take the cup fully apart just to make sure that there is no build up inside.
