A woman in Washington is making headlines after she came forward and accused a restaurant of denying her service because she was wearing a crop top while pregnant.

According to KIRO 7, the server told the woman that the restaurant’s “no shoes, no shirt, no service” policy was linked to health code regulations.

Although the server insisted that any person wearing a crop top would be asked to cover up, the pregnant woman was not buying it.

Charisha Gobin explained that she stopped at the Buzz Inn Steakhouse in Marysville while wearing a black crop top and a long skirt.

According to KIRO 7, the server told the woman that the restaurant’s “no shoes, no shirt, no service” policy was linked to health code regulations.

Although the server insisted that any person wearing a crop top would be asked to cover up, the pregnant woman was not buying it.

Charisha Gobin explained that she stopped at the Buzz Inn Steakhouse in Marysville while wearing a black crop top and a long skirt.

“The waitress/bartender stopped us and said, ‘I’m sorry, you can’t be here in that shirt.’ I said, ‘Are you being serious with me right now?’ And she said, ‘Yep, you can’t be here,’” Gobin said.

Gobin is currently seven-and-a-half months pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl, and she certainly never expected to be denied service just because her belly is showing.

“Just because my belly was bigger and sticking out. But had it been anyone else, I don’t think there would’ve been any problem whatsoever,” she said.

After the way she was treated, Gobin shared a photo of her outfit on Facebook, writing: “I was just denied service at the Buzz Inn on State Avenue in Marysville for my outfit. I’m violating the health code.”

The moment after she was given an explanation about the health code, Gobin immediately left the restaurant.

“I was livid. There was no way I was going to stay there,” she said.

KIRO 7 later spoke to the server, who insisted that Gobin’s cop top simply wasn’t long enough to be considered a shirt.

“I was wearing a shirt, it had sleeves. I didn’t even have cleavage showing,” Gobin said.

At the end of the day, Gobin feels like the server at the restaurant body-shamed her.

“It’s pretty ridiculous I was shamed in the first place and had to drive across town to eat,” she said.

Now that her post has gone viral, Gobin says she hopes to forget about the humiliating incident altogether.

“I was very surprised by the response,” she said. “I think that says everybody pretty much agrees – I wasn’t out of bounds or out of line in any way.”

Meanwhile, Buzz Inn Washington has released the following statement regarding the incident:

“Statement: We sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding and will cover with all staff as to how to not overly enforce a rule that is intended to make all guests feel comfortable. Our apologies for the misunderstanding. The server in question has been with our company and a great employee for almost 20 years and was trying to use her best judgement (sic) and by no means was trying to be demeaning to the guest again our sincere apology for misunderstanding.”
