The Woman was Recovering from a C-Section When She was Told

When planning your birth, you want to surround yourself with people who love and support you, and that will help you through the difficulties of child birth and recovery. 

Many women enlist the services of a midwife or a doula during and after childbirth.

By having someone there, who’s dedicated to your needs and well-being through such an ordeal, can be so comforting. 

Many women rely on their partners for this kind of support during labor and recovery. 

But what do you think happens when the midwife and your partner are involved in an act of betrayal? 

And what happens when you don’t find out until AFTER the midwife has helped you through your labor and delivery, and held your brand new baby?

A UK woman is currently living what sounds like an absolute nightmare, after discovering that her midwife and partner had a sexual affair while she was pregnant. 

To make matters worse, she learned about the affair after her c-section and recovery. 

Can you even imagine that? 

Betrayal by 2 people who are supposed to have your back, and then having to live with the memories of her involvement in the birth of your child?

The Ultimate Betrayal 

The two met on a “boys’ trip” when the Mother was 3 months pregnant

The mom shared her story with Liverpool Echo, and asked to remain anonymous. She says that her partner began acting strangely after his trip, and even missed appointments during the pregnancy.

He wasn’t there for the scheduled c-section, either.

The woman’s midwife, Joanne Lumsden, assisted her through during the delivery and recovery. 

Lumsden is in fact a bit of a local celeb, appearing on British childbirth reality show One Born Every Minute.

The Mother had some suspicions that her partner and Lumsden knew each other when she eventually introduced them.

 She says they were pretty chatty for having just met and it wasn’t until her partner had left the recovery ward that Lumsden confessed to knowing him.

She initially told the woman that she had rubbed sunscreen on his back during a trip But then another midwife told her the truth a week later.

About a week after Lumden’s admission, another midwife told the mom the whole story.

 Lumsden and her partner had a 3-month affair during her pregnancy.

She told the Echo, “As a mum who was looking forward to the birth of her last baby, I was subjected to the most horrific ordeal any mother to be could ever imagine. As any woman about to give birth to their baby would understand, I put my utmost trust and confidence into the hands of a midwife who I thought was a medical professional with mine and my daughter’s best interests at heart.”

The Mother then filed a formal complaint at Liverpool’s Women’s Hospital, saying that she feels incredibly violated by this major breach of trust and conflict of interest.The midwife held the baby, knowing she had slept with the child’s father

The mom says she now has to live with the memories of the horrible betrayal. 

She says, “This has amounted to the destruction of a family. Ms. Lumsden chose to ignore a series of opportunities to declare the conflict of interest in the many months, weeks, and days leading up to the birth of my daughter. Instead she took matters into her own hands and made sure she was present that day.”

Continuing, “As a woman, I am now left with a lifelong memory of the midwife holding my newborn baby in her arms with the knowledge that she was having sexual relations with my baby’s father during my pregnancy and being fully aware that I was under the care of her place of work.”

Lumsden is reportedly no longer employed by the hospital (or on the reality show, presumably), and the midwife who told the mom about the affair is undergoing disciplinary proceedings. 

The Mother and cheating partner are reportedly no longer together.
