Mother Accused Of “Starving” Her Daughter After Friend Sees What She’s Eating For Lunch

Finding the right balance when it comes to your kids food can be a tough task.

Making sure they’re having healthy, balanced meals while still letting them tuck into things they enjoy and will actually eat, is not easy.

One Mother thought she had got the perfect lunch ready for her 8-year-old daughter, but her friend was horrified when she saw it.

The upset Mother thought she had the quantities right, but her friend basically said it was nowhere near enough.

The meal consisted of:

  • A mini pitta
  • Six mini breadsticks
  • Dessert spoon of houmous
  • Dessert spoon of guacamole
  • Six big strawberries
  • A Fruit yogurt

Posting on the parenting blog website Mumsnet , she wrote: “I’ve just been told by a visiting friend I’m basically starving her when she saw her lunch.

“That’s fine isn’t it??”

She explains that her daughter, who is a healthy height and weight, ate a bowl of natural yogurt and berries for breakfast and would also have an afternoon snack of cheese or a piece of fruit.

She says: “She’s fine!! Always has small snacks lunches and doesn’t complain of hunger.”Friend was aghast and said her kids at 18-month-old ate more than that.”

But many parents agree with the friend, and claim it isn’t enough! 

One wrote: “My toddler would starve on that! There is nothing substantial there. Where is the protein?

“My toddler and five year old this morning ate a bowl of cereal, toast and orange segments. They have just eaten a bowl of veg soup and a ham sandwich.”

Another added: “It does sound more like something a four-year-old would eat rather than an eight-year-old.”

One said: “My seven and nine-year-old would still be ravenous after that! It would fill the two-year-old though as long as you added some cheese or ham!”Another pointed our: “I was eating adult portions at 8 years old lol.”

But other parents say that it’s absolutely fine.

One wrote: “Well, if she’s a normal height and weight and it gives her enough energy to run about then it’s fine. It’s nutritious enough, I wish my child would eat that and not immediately clamour for chocolate biscuits!”

Another replied: “It sounds fine – possibly on the small side but if she’s ok with it then it must be ok!”
