A Mom Who Was Called “Fat” On A Flight Has Shamed Her Offender Publicly
Travelling can be stressful at the best of times, and all the more so when travelling with young children. And the last thing anyone needs is to be offended by someone over your weight.
That is exactly what happened to Megan Bieniek from Beaufort recently when she was travelling with her husband and toddler on a flight to Wichita where they were attending a wedding and Thanksgiving celebration.
Sharing the experience on Facebook Megan said that she and her family were seated next to a woman on their connecting flight from Atlanta to Wichita, when the woman sent a text to someone saying “SITTING NEXT TO 2 FAT PEOPLE AND THEIR TODDLER. PRAY FOR ME.”
She explained that the woman had enlarged text enabled on her phone and was holding it out in front of her face. “There was no way I could not see as she typed. She was holding her phone directly in my line of vision,” she wrote.
Understandably upset, Megan decided to confront the woman about her message. “Excuse me. If you’re going to type shut awful things about the people next to you, maybe you shouldn’t have your enlarged text on, and hold it for them to see,” she said to the woman who smirked and shoved her phone in Megan’s face to give her a closer look.
Megan says she was brought to tears by the incident and called the flight attendant to see if they could have the woman moved. Thankfully a man volunteered his seat while other passengers comforted a distraught Megan.
In her lengthy post, Megan thanked the people who showed her such kindness and urged others to seek kindness in their own lives. She thanked the flight attendants and everyone who made her feel better while roasting the lady who offended her. “While one woman showed such hate, so many on our flight showed such love,” she said.
“I hope you think next time, and refrain from saying such hateful things about the stranger next to you. I hope that your children never have the experience that I had the other day. I hope you have a friend or relative out there that sees this, and helps you be a better person,” she wrote.
Megan concluded her heartfelt post by pleading with people to be kind to each other; she also shared a number of pictures of the lady who upset her.
“To everyone else out there, stop the hate. We were all told ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all.’ I want to take it a step further. If you don’t have anything nice to say, but you are thinking it, do some self-exploration. Why do you feel the need to say that unkind thing? What good would come of it? What can you do to improve yourself? Be a good person! Make friends with a stranger. BE KIND!!!”
