Family Dogs Kill 3 Day Old Baby

In Fresno, California – Police have confirmed that 2 family dogs have killed a 3-day-old baby. The 33-year-old Mother had reportedly left the baby girl on the couch and walked away for just a few seconds.

The mother had also reportedly opened the window and the front door to let some fresh air in the home because it was hot. When she thought her newborn baby was comfortable and safe on the couch, she went to the bathroom.

Police Sgt. Dan Macias spoke to the Fresno Bee about the incident and said:

She left the door open because it was hot, and she thought the dogs were tied up.”

The dogs were in fact untied and then attacked the helpless infant. The girl was rushed to the hospital, where Doctors attempted to save her but unfortunately, she did not survive.

Sgt. Macias said, “At this point, we believe it was an unfortunate accident.”

Macias also said that the two male dogs are owned by the woman’s brother and they are believed to be a mix of shar-pei and pit bull. The dogs have been surrendered to the Central California Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where the dogs will be euthanized.

Charges have not been ruled out as police are continuing to investigate.

It is almost always a Pit involved in these attacks but people don’t want us to judge pits and think are great. I will never ever own a pit!!!!

I don’t want to hear it’s the owner. Tired of hearing that. So sad that this happened! And these tragic storied are the reason these dogs are banned in a lot of areas and why I will never own one. Don’t trust them and never will. It’s like saying every criminals parents are bad. That is not the case.

You are so wrong. I OWN A PIT AND SHE IS a BEAUTIFUL ANIMAL. NOT ALL PITS ARE VICUOUS. THE BABY SHOULD OF BEEN WATCHED and never left with any dog no matter the breed. I DONT KNOW THE WHOLE SITUATION SO WHO IS TO JUDGE. NONETHELESS A PRECIOUS LIFE IS LOST BEFORE IT BEGAN. SUCH A SenseLESS DEATH. YOU CANT BLAME AN ENTIRE BREED OF DOGS.

Well you don’t have to yell. I am just saying it is usually a pit or pit mix involved in attacking. To each his own. I just don’t want anything to do with them. I am not blaming the parent. She did not leave the baby with the dogs. Tragic loss.

Actully she left the child alone at 3 days old any one with common sense would not leave a 3 day old baby alone on a couch…

I said she did not leave the baby with the dogs. I am not going to knock this mom for leaving a baby on the couch to go the bathroom. You can go on blame others as well then too… father friends her brother… 3 day old baby is not going anywhere. Give me a break. I have raised 3 kids and guess what…I left them on the couch or swing alone to go to the bathroom. *GASP* mom did nothing wrong so stop making it out that she did. You know cause it could be the dogs were the issue… please

Heather Bartow any pet could harm a child….. With a baby that new in the home, I think it’s fair to say it may have been a very bad judgement call to leave the child on the couch. That being said….. I’m sure this mother is beside herself with grief and will never get over this tragic loss.

Well you are missing out. They are a wonderful breed. It is how you train them. Any animal has a potential for danger. These are domesticated animals with a certain trait. No one will ever know what happened. again, it is tragic what happened to this baby. I will never understand why you would leave a baby with two dogs especially WHEN THEY ARE NOT YOURS of any size alone. Maybe the baby cried and it frieked the dogs out. You cant go and blame an entire breed of dog. It is just pure ignorance. I totally sympathize with this mother and cant begin to feel her pain but again it has nothing to do with these dogs being pitt bulls.

I love dogs and I have many but even being an animal/dog lover Pitts scare the out of me. My cousin was mauled by a Pitt as a child a dog he knew and he was lucky enough to live. But I don’t agree it’s the owner not the dog. An animal will be an animal and just like people you never know what’s in their mind. Now while I don’t know these circumstances I will not fault the mother entirely. She’s allowed to go to the bathroom. But big dogs like that or any dog for that matter shouldn’t be around children in my opinion. I have 2 small dogs and I try my hardest to not leave them unattended with my niece and she’s here every day and my dogs know her and are sweethearts but like I said never know what’s in their mind

Ive owned many pits and my kids have never been attacked. It has to be something the owner has done. Not the dog. Maybe malnutrition? Maybe thr dogs were not used to children? Its never the dog.

A pet, no matter if it’s a dog or a cat or whatever. is still an animal. To fully trust a pet not to harm a child, especially a newborn, is beyond me. The reality is tragedies like this happen. Blaming the mom nor the dogs won’t bring back the child, though.

They probably thought it was a toy that’s why kids under a certain age should never be left unattended when there’s dogs around nor when there’s a front door open or any door to the house.

I couldn’t and don’t want to even begin to imagine how she feels. I am so sorry for her loss. I think sometimes our common sense goes out the window when we have a newborn, being sleep deprived and trying to heal and recover from birth and pregnancy itself, just isn’t easy. It’s hard in those early days. Sometimes the smallest of mistakes lead to something so massive, and unfortunately tragic. I read about this a few days ago, and it broke my heart. I have two little kids and the thought of losing them would be absolutely devastating, especially if it was something that happened on your watch that could of easily been preventable. I’m sure she will spend the rest of her life going over the events of that day with such regret and guilt. I know there’s going to be fights between people on the internet placing blame on her, or the dogs, even both. I hope that she doesn’t read into the harshness of it to much (but I’m sure she will). My thoughts go to this mama who has suffered such a precious loss, and to her family, and friends. Most of all, I hope this beautiful little soul finds peace.

I don’t know what to say. I feel so bad for the mother, she is probably right now not in a good place at all. Poor baby that never got the chance to live. But there are so many wrong things described in this article from putting the baby on the sofa to leave that baby with the door open (someone could enter the house and kidnapped her).
You never live a baby with a dogs.
As much as I love my 22lb dog, I never let her next to my kid unattended. The dog trainer told us that only at the age of 12 years old kids can be with dogs unattended.
    What a tragedy.

I don’t know what to make of this story just yet. While I feel for the mother to some degree, opening a door and then walking away from the baby to go to the bathroom? Sounds like there may be more to this story, which is even more tragic.

The dogs might not have known what the baby was. Babies are small. The dogs were probably just playing, thinking the baby was a toy. I feel sorry to the mother who lost her baby, but it is unsafe to leave a child on a couch unsupervised

Well, how do i begin… “Central California Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, where the dogs will be euthanized”. I wonder.. Why should the dogs be put down, because they were acting like animals!! The mother isn’t that innocent. Anyone who spends (attentive) time with dogs knows what they are/are not capable of. Why would she leave a newborn unattended, why not sentence her as well?? The dogs were obviously not being given attention (which they deserved), and were experiencing anxiety, possibly even jealousy. The dogs needed to be moved to a different environment, but certainly not EUTHANIZED. It’s not the dogs fault for being put into a situation not suitable for them. I want this parent to know that she is not free of guilt. I wouldn’t leave my children with this type of person for a second!! Concerned about peoples views of right and wrong.

    1. They DO need to put the dogs down. Once a dog has tasted blood they will always bite again.
    2. All the people in here saying they have never put their child down to go to the bathroom are liars! You can’t hold a baby while going to the bathroom!
    3. If you leave a newborn unattended for even a second you make sure the baby is safe which would include making sure the door was closed especially if you have animals!
This story should be a good lesson to all new mothers! Be aware of your babies surroundings! Make sure the child is safe! It says she thought the dogs were tied up well she should’ve made sure and shut the door! It only takes a second to close the door! That doesnt mean she deserves a sentence! She already has a life sentence and will live with this for the rest of her life! This story is so horrible! Now 3 lives will be lost due to lack of respect for mother nature! Animals are animals no matter the breed and they probably did think it was a toy. I feel bad for the whole family and will keep you in my prayers!

Why would you open the door and then window (leaving a chance for even a predator to enter the home) and then nonchalantly leave the room ( that a 3 day old baby is in) I believe there is more to this story than what is being said. Only an extreme idiot would do something like that. What if the baby fell in between the couch cushions and suffocated? I guess that would be the fault of the couch and the idiot mother wouldn’t be to blame? Smh that’s what is wrong with this world today. God keep that lil Angel safe in Heaven because obviously it’s mother couldn’t keep it safe here on Earth! And do not tell anyone not to post their opinions or beliefs….they are entitled to them. And I’m sorry but it’s my opinion that the mother was a friggin idiot. It sounds like a mother that didn’t want a child and teased the dogs until they attacked the baby and then of course an amazing animal gets put to sleep instead of an idiotic human which in my opinion is far more dangerous to society than a dog!

I must slow clap to all of you that think that a mother leaving her 3 day old child alone on the sofa is a crime. You all must be a special kind of stupid is what I say. The mother thought the child was fine and a 3 day isn’t going to be wiggling around much and hey I don’t know about the rest of you but it take me less than 2 minutes to pee and I am a mother of twins, so yeah I would let my boys sleeping on the floor on a blanket while I went to take a pee. Did it hurt them nope it didn’t they were perfectly fine and napping when I came back.

Now about the pits…Pits have a bad rep because of tier biting force and because of that people abuse them and train them as fight dogs. Here is the Deal about dogs tho Chihuahaus are actually more vicious with biting people than pits are. Pit bulls were originally bred to be nanny dogs towards children and make excellent protectors on little kids.
Here is the deal tho that also needs to considered where these dogs in fact socialized around small children at all? I have a friend who has a daughter that is now 6 years old that owns a pit that has been with her little girl since she was a pup the absolute worse thing I have that dog do to that little girl is drool on her -_- yeah sounds real vicious to me. Any dog can attack a child when I was around 3 I was bitten by a GOLDEN RETRIEVER on my head receiving over 20 stitches I was told by my grandmother. The dog belonged to her and it was a freak accident that dog had never bitten anyone in its life before me.

What I am saying is that mother did nothing wrong the dogs may or may not have been socialized towards small children what it all amounts to is that this is a very tragic incident and my heart goes out to the woman and her family.
