Daycare Worker Charged For Abuse Of 2 Toddlers
A daycare worker in St. Clair County was caught on surveillance camera abusing two toddlers she was supposed to be caring for, police have said.
Video surveillance captured Joann R. Schofield, 51, on 2 separate occasions this month picking up a cot holding a 2-year-old and dropping the toddler on the ground, police said. Both children were taken to the hospital where one had minor injuries and the other was not hurt.
The first time she purposefully dropped a child was on June 16 and the second time was last Thursday. The police were called that same day and it’s not clear when the alleged abuse was discovered.
Schofield was arrested on Monday and was charged with one felony count of aggravated battery and one count of misdemeanor battery. The Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating the matter
Schofield was being held in the St. Clair County Jail with bail set at $50,000.
