2 Year-Old Son Shoots Mom in the Back
While driving along a Milwaukee highway on Wednesday, a Mother was fatally shot by her two-year-old son.
According to The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s office, the 26- year-old mother, Patrice Price, died at the scene of the incident.
The toddler picked up a gun that slid out from under the driver’s seat and discharged the firearm through the front seat, hitting his mother. Also in the car were Patrice’s mother and 1-year-old son but they were unharmed.
The gun, which was a 40-caliber, was recovered from the floor of the back seat.
Officials say that the 2-year-old boy was not seated in his car seat while his mom was driving the car, whilst it’s unknown whether or not he was wearing a seatbelt. The car is believed to be that of Price’s boyfriend.
Just last month, another Mom was wounded in similar circumstances. Jamie Gilt, was shot in the back by her 4-year-old son, who climbed out of his car seat and found a handgun that slid from underneath the front seat to the back where he was seated. In this case however, the Mom survived the shooting.

Seriously I’m not a perfect parent but leaving a loaded gun in a car with kids is just really silly

Omg that poor boy, how traumatizing that is for him. And to live the rest of his life knowing he accidentally killed his mother. Cannot even imagine what that will do to him.

2 year olds are supposed to be in a five pint harness caraway. Had he been he wouldn’t have been able to reach a loaded gun on the floor of the car. And why is there a loaded gun under the seat to begin with?!?

Waow, those Guns have been after market altered, which would make them in some respect ” illegal ” Manufacturers have a certain ” tensile strength ” on the trigger, which have on average 40 lbs pull, that normal children can’t excerpt….

Roger,
Sorry, but that is not true about the pull weight. In Massachusetts, the law is 10 lbs. In other states, it is lower. If you buy a Glock, they come with about 4 to 6 lbs. You are legally allowed in some states to lower your trigger pull. My rifle, being MA compliant, is adjustable down to 2 lbs pull. I am saddened to hear of this young life lost, but it was not an accident. It was the fault of the gun owner for not securing that firearm properly. I am a law-abiding firearm owner and my 2 little ones never have and never will have access to them. They are always properly secured in a safe or on my person. So this is not the child’s fault, but the boyfriend who owns the car and gun. So sad. I would never wish this on my worst enemy.
Seriously??

Don’t you think that there are a couple of other things going on here that are a little more concerning??? Like the fact that the boyfriend just tossed his gun in the back of the car after work, without properly securing it… or that the 2 year old wasn’t strapped into his car seat while the mother was driving, which could have been fatal to him if she was in a car accident instead, not to mention the access to the gun…
This death an easily preventable death, and trauma for the toddler.

I have to agree. Why is a loaded, or unloaded gun in a car under the seat. Shocking! Was there some fear of violent attack. Is the environment that surrounds them a potential danger to their life?
Very irresponsible ownership of a firearm from whomever it belonged to. It is possible that the mother did not know the firearm was there; however, had her child been in the car seat the tragedy could have been prevented. All children should be in car seats. My son is 5; and he is still in a car seat.
I think the moral of this tragedy is “Safety First” in all capacities, for both adults and children.
