What was this mom thinking? She leaves baby in hot car
Police have arrested a 23-year-old Birmingham woman after she left her infant in a hot, locked car, while she done some shopping.
Deidra Nicole Williams was charged with the wilful abuse of a child under the age of 18.
According to court records, the woman was booked in to the Shelby County Jail and released the following day after posting a $5,000 bond. One of bond requirements is that she has no contact with the little baby.
After the victim was found, police and firefighters were called to rescue the 5-month-old child from the locked vehicle.
It’s still unclear as to how long the infant was in the car as investigators initially believed that the infant had been in the vehicle for only a short amount of time, but the police later said that it could have been for an extended period of time, but they did not know the exact amount of time.
According to Alabaster police Chief Curtis Rigney, the car windows were rolled up, the car was locked and was not running. The temperature outside of the car was said to be about 102 degrees at the time the baby was discovered. Rigney said that he is not sure what the temperature was inside the car.
The Police Chief also confirmed that while the baby was left in the vehicle, the Mother shopped in Dollar General.
The baby was fortunately conscious when rescued and was taken to Shelby Baptist Medical Center to be checked out.
“I would say within five or 10 more minutes, that baby would have been dead. I just want to remind people that in this kind of weather, remind yourself of who all is in the vehicle.” Rigney said.
Since the beginning of 2016, at least 16 children have died in the U.S after being left in hot cars.

What’s going on? Why do people keep doing the same stupid thing in spite of all the warnings?
I hope this case will be a lesson for all reckless parents!!

Not proper enforcement of the law. Long time in jail is what is needed not just talk.

It is still happening because less than 24 hours later she is back.home relaxing and my question is why if you can post $5,000 dollars for bond you can’t pay a flipping sitter to baby sit while you browse the stores. This girlthing raising the stars of our tomorrows are the reasons why we are damned to hell here on earth scary and maybe punishment should for these types of crimes are lost of productive tubes left in a car at 102 outside the vehicle shopping as she is buying bibs and bottles no less. I am not a big fan of throwing peoples names and images usually as most crimes are cops called based on stangers perceptions of situations and innocent until proven guilty can sometimes ruin a innocent person even if exonerated so double edge sword but this woman clearly know or if not reasonable human who has ever gotten into a locked up car once it has been sitting in the summer sun doesn’t even shut the doors until the air is cooler and removed hot stuffy air or if not ac all windows rolled down so oxygen can flow the hot air outside. She should have to sit in jail. No rhyme or reason can excuse this abhorrent behaviour

I totally agree with you. I have twins they are 5yrs old now. I would Never have forgotten them in the car when they were babies. Even today if I am some where and they aren’t with me I check to see why they aren’t getting out of their boosters. Common Sense People. Motherly/Fatherly INSTINCTS should kick in if you truly CARE for those babies more than yourself.

I’m sorry but I think people who leave children with baby sitters are irresponsible. Having experience care-giving for elderly, children and pets. I promise you people spent more time questioning me and checking me out to walk their dog than to care for their kids or grandmother.

And if the baby died she’d be charged with murder! She should rot in jail for attempted murder. Absolutely disgraceful

Im a mother of 2 young girls and live in Florida. I see these stories all the time in the news. I dont understand how someone can “forget” a child in a vehicle. Its sickening. Im sure she wouldn’t sit in a car in 100+ weather without ac!!

What makes me sick is her mugshot. No remorse. No regret. She’s angry. She’s mad she got caught. Like how dare they arrest her.

I still look for my two boys in the backseat, even when they aren’t with me. All it takes is to glance around before you turn off the car and get out.
