A rare condition gave this baby the biggest head in the world; It is the size of a watermelon!
Mrityunjay Das, only 7 months old, was dubbed as the baby with the ‘world’s largest head.’ The size of his head, however, is the result of a rare condition that can harm his mental and physical abilities.
Mrityunjay suffers from Hydrocephalus, a condition where fluids accumulate in the skull. The same fluids stretched his head to the size of a watermelon. However, all is well for the 7-month-old as doctors in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa, removed almost 4 litres of fluid in a successful surgery that happened in January this year.
The diameter of his head shrunk from 96 cm to 70 cm. Mrityunjay underwent 6 weeks of treatment for his condition. A Doctor told Daily Mail that his head had 5.5 litres of liquid. “The cognitive functions of the child has improved a lot, he is stable and has responded well to the treatment,” the doctor further added.
Mrityunjay’s large sized head had attracted a lot of negative comments from the neighbours and relatives. His father Kamalesh told Kolkata 24X7 “People would call our baby a ghost because of his unusual appearance.” The parents are happy with the progress and hope for a change in people’s attitude towards their son.
