A 1-year-old Detroit girl apparently drowned in a bathtub after her mother fell asleep on her couch early Wednesday morning, police said.

The mother had returned home from working a 12-hour shift and fell asleep on the couch, Detroit Police Officer Kenyetta Hebron said.

“The mother was awoken by her 4-year-old daughter, who had wet herself. The mother began running bathwater to wash her 4-year-old when the mother fell back asleep on the couch.”

Hebron said the mother was then awoken a second time by the 4-year-old girl, who led her to the bathroom where the 1-year-old was unresponsive in the bathtub.

The girl was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead about 2 a.m.

No charges have been announced against the mother.

The apparent drowning occurred at a home on the 10700 block of Balfour, located on Detroit’s east side.

    — first thought is drugs. No mother in her sober mind leaves her infant in water to lay down?!!

She worked a 12 hour shift and if you will notice this was about 1 am. The four year old was the one in the tub because she had wet the bed and the 1 year old must have gotten in shortly after. Stop trying to crucify grieving parents from behind your smart phones and try a little bit of sensitivity.

Uh yes I did that’s why I responded. I don’t care if you disagree. She left her toddler & child unattended & the baby died. That makes her incompetent, she forgot her baby was a curious wonderer. Drain the tub then Lay down.

Pearl Etheridge I didn’t ask you if you read it. That was someone else. I’m sure she would give anything to do that day over. Just leave her alone. Fb is full of opinions. One less won’t hurt. Let parents grieve in peace.
