Missing a period is the most obvious sign of pregnancy, but even before that, you may have a suspicion that you’re pregnant.

Early symptoms of pregnancy can actually start in the first few weeks after conception and can vary in intensity, frequency and duration.

The following initial signs and symptoms of pregnancy are merely a guideline.

Note that a number of early pregnancy symptoms can actually appear similar to routine pre-menstrual discomforts.

Early Signs And Symptoms Of Pregnancy

Fatigue

Fatigue or tiredness is one of the early symptoms of pregnancy. Levels of the hormone progesterone soar in the early pregnancy stage. Lower blood sugar levels, lower blood pressure as well as increased blood production cam also drain  your energy during pregnancy. You may also feel light headed and dizzy.

Headaches

An increase in blood circulation caused by hormonal changes may trigger frequent, mild headaches during the early pregnancy phase.

Tender, swollen breasts

Round about 2 weeks after conception, hormonal changes can make your breast feels tender, tingly or sore. It may also feel feel fuller and heavier.

Nausea and vomiting

Morning sickness is probably the classic symptom of pregnancy and can in fact begin as early as two weeks after conception.

This is due to the rapidly rising level of estrogen, which causes the stomach to empty more slowly.

Heightened Senses

Pregnant women may also have a heightened sense of smell. Odours such as foods cooking, perfume or cigarette smoke can make a woman feel ill in early pregnancy.

Constipation

A rise in progesterone causes food to pass more slowly through the intestines and slow down the entire digestion process which can lead to constipation.

Mood swings

The overflow of hormones in your body in early pregnancy can make you feel unusually emotional and tearful.

Slight bleeding or cramping

Some woman experience a small amount of spotting or vaginal bleeding as one of the first symptoms of their pregnancy.

This is known as implantation bleeding which happens when the fertilised egg attaches to the lining of the uterus – about 10 to 14 days after fertilisation. Some women also experience abdominal cramping early in pregnancy which are similar to menstrual cramps.

“Feeling” Pregnant

This is probably why you are checking this list!

Moodiness, queasiness, light-headedness or tiredness?

Or are you finding yourself making more frequent trips to the toilet?

Or are you simply not feeling like your usual self?

Many women believe they have an intuition about pregnancy symptoms and its often proven correct!

Unfortunately, these symptoms aren’t unique to pregnancy. Some may be a sign that you’re getting sick or that your period is about to begin! Also, you can be pregnant without experiencing any of these symptoms.

Either way, you might want to take a home pregnancy test to know for sure!
