The close friends and family of a Michigan woman are left stunned and grieving after she shot and killed her entire family, before turning the gun on herself.

Lauren Stuart fatally shot herself after she did the same to her husband, two kids, and the family dog, according to police.

The details of the case are really disturbing because it seems there was a trigger for this event that happened earlier. It’s too bad that no one was able to get the support that was needed at the time. It’s so much easier to look at these things after the fact though.
And those who are close to the family are having a hard time with that as well.

“I couldn’t believe it,” longtime friend Joyce Taylor told the Detroit Free Press of the 45-year-old mom who fatally shot herself and her family in what police have declared a murder-suicide. “I just couldn’t believe it.”

Lauren Stuart and her family were found dead in their Keego Harbor home Friday.

Welfare Check

According to police officers, a concerned family member called the police and asked them to do a welfare check on Lauren Stuart and family after they didn’t hear from her.

When authorities arrived at the home, they found 4 bodies that have been identified as Lauren Stuart, her 47-year-old husband Daniel, and their two adult children: 27-year-old Steven, and 24-year-old Bethany.Reports also indicate the dog was found dead as well.

According to PEOPLE, both of Lauren’s adult kids were in college and her husband, Daniel, was a data solutions architect for the University of Michigan’s Center for Integrative Research in Critical Care.
Lauren listed herself as a part-time personal trainer at a local Detroit metro-area YMCA and a model.

Reports say that all of the victims, including the dog, were shot in the head and a handgun was located at the scene of the murders. The victims had all been shot in the head and handgun was located at the scene.

Family and friends like Taylor, who saw Lauren just the week before, are having a hard time understanding it all because she says the couple were very much in love.

“She worshiped Danny. Danny worshiped her. They were like hand in glove,” Taylor told Free Press. “But she was very concerned about Dan. He was prone to depression and she was always worried about him.”

However, Taylor said that she and other friends were concerned about the family after an incident 5 years ago. She worries that is what pushed Lauren to kill her family and herself.

According to her, five years earlier, the family was shunned from their religion and from the Jehovah’s Witness church because of “doctrinal and social issues.”

And that had to do with her children.. .

Taylor told the Free Press that Lauren and her husband wanted their children to be college educated, which apparently the church was against.

She said being shunned from the church meant that no one, not even family, can contact you.“[Lauren] was in emotional distress,” Taylor told the paper. “She felt alone. I was her lifeline.”

Taylor went to a Kingdom Hall for the Jehovah’s Witness church and delivered a message that she recorded and posted to YouTube.

“Excuse me everyone, my name is Joyce Taylor,” she says. “Two days ago, four people died as a result of your shunning process.”

“Five years ago you people pulled your support from this small family, the only support they had was you people. You turned them away and you shunned them,” she continued.

“They were shunned every way possible. If Lauren went to the grocery store, they didn’t look her in the eye,” said Taylor, who is a former Jehovah’s Witness herself. “When you are raised a Jehovah’s Witness, they choose your friends.

“They choose who you associate with. And if you go against that, they will dis-fellowship you, or shun you.”

Keego Harbor police have not released a motive to the murder-suicide and the investigation is still ongoing.
