10-Year-Old Looking To Be Adopted – He Was In State Care Since A Toddler

10-year-old Preston has been in state care since he was a toddler, but now he is looking for a forever home.

Michael Danielson, Preston’s child welfare specialist has been the only constant thing in the young boy’s life for the past four years. Preston was 2-years-old when he was placed in DHS custody and has been in and out of facilities due to a traumatic background. “The family he had was really really bad to him,” Michael explains.

Preston is just like any other 10-year-old, he likes to watch cartoons, he likes to play football and basketball and one day he hopes to become a football player. Yet he is a massive Oklahoma City Thunder fan, Michael told Oklahoma News 4 that “He’s always wearing Thunder jerseys, a big Russell Westbrook fan.”

Oklahoma News 4 reports that even though Preston is quiet when you first meet him, it doesn’t take him long to warm up to new people. Michael says that he is a very well-mannered child and would just like to have a more normal life.

Child welfare officer Michael says he sees a lot of children go through the system in his job, but Preston has stood out to him. “They start off with no support and they don’t have the ability to learn how to deal with their emotions, and growing up and not having any support. It’s really tough on kids, hard to watch. I have a lot of passion for this kid. I want to see him end up on his feet really well. With some good support, I don’t see him having any issues with anybody,” he says.

Michael claims that Preston would probably be best as an only child, but all he really wants is a family with people who will love and care for him. “He just really wants a family. He wants a mom and a dad. He still asks about his mom and his dad now so he really wants someone he can call mom and dad,” Michael explained.

When Oklahoma News 4 asked Preston what he would really like in a family, he replied simply by saying “With people that care about me.”
