This Baby Was Born Resembling A Doll. Nurses Rush In When They See Her Hair
Baby Devina Smith was born with a thick head of snow white hair. So unusual and rare that her mother Jessica didn’t expect her daughter to gain so much attention when she posted pictures of her online.
“I never expected her to have hair like that, I didn’t know until she was born. I hadn’t seen a baby like that before others were blond, but not white. I think it makes her extra special,” 27 year old Jessica said.
Even the nurses were amazed when they saw baby Devina’s hair color. Doctors say that Devina’s hair color is down to partial albinism. Albinism is a rare genetic condition affecting 5 in every 100,000 people in the US and Europe.
Despite her genetic condition, Devina was born totally healthy weighing 7 lbs. 12 oz. and measuring 19 inches in length. However, the tot needs regular checkups for her sight as a result of the condition.
Since then her mother has posted pictures of her gorgeous little girl online and the baby has become rather popular on the online community. Jessica spoke to the Daily Mail where she said: “When we posted her photos online, they were being viewed thousands of times. I couldn’t believe how much attention the photos were getting. People thought it had been Photoshopped.”
Baby Devina has been likened to Game of Thrones character Daenerys due to her silvery-white locks.
Her mother Jessica says: “She’s so tiny, we haven’t taken her out much but when we took her for a hospital visit, a little girl said she looked like a baby doll.”
Devina’s condition is a disorder characterized by the complete or partial absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. Partial albinism is an inherited condition affecting melanin production in the body.
People with albinism are characterized by their white hair and pale skin, the very reason Devina has become the internet sensation.
Partial albinism may be caused by a flaw in one of a number of genes that are known to affect melanin production, which makes it difficult for doctors to predict whether or not a child will be born with the condition.
3-Year-Old Girl Dies Following Suspected Abuse: Mother’s Boyfriend Charged
A 3-year-old girl from Chico County has died in a case of suspected abuse, according to the Chicot County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
The incident report notes that deputies were notified when the child was brought into a local emergency room Tuesday night by her mother and grandmother with injuries described as “severe.”
The CCSO says that Journee Orji was later airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock.
After interviewing Journee’s mother, who lives in Lake Village, the CCSO says that she told deputies that her boyfriend Jeffery Tucker had spanked Journee at her home earlier in the day.
After receiving that information and also learning that Tucker had left the address in the mother’s vehicle a BOLO was put out to surrounding agencies on the vehicle as well as the Tucker.
The man was taken into custody in Eudora just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Journee died from her injuries at 4:05 p.m. on Wednesday, the CCSO confirmed.
A probable cause hearing and first court appearance were held on Thursday for Tucker in Chicot County Circuit Court.
He has been charged with Capital Murder and ordered held without bond.
