NEWS: Police – NKY mother left child sleeping in 105-degree car
FLORENCE, Ky. —
A Northern Kentucky woman is accused of leaving her child alone in a car as she shopped at Florence Mall, Florence police said Thursday.
Christina Krups, 29, of Newport, faces a charge of wanton endangerment.
Police said they were called to Lot B of the mall on Wednesday for reports of a child left in a vehicle. Police said they found several people standing around a 2015 BMW SUV, with a child sleeping in a car seat.
The vehicle was locked and the windows were down about an inch, officials said.
As officers attempted to break into the car, police said the child’s mother, Krups, exited the mall and unlocked the doors with a remote.
“The one-year-old child was still sleeping, had red cheeks, and was sweating. Once awake, the child did not need any further medical assistance and was released to the care of the father,” police said.
The child was left unattended for 10-15 minutes, police said. The temperature outside was 83 degrees, but a temperature check inside of the vehicle revealed heat of 105 degrees, according to a police report.
Krups was arrested and transported to the Boone County Detention Center.
HearBreaking: Baby Whose Mother Chose Giving Birth Over Chemotherapy Has Died
The baby born of a Michigan woman who chose to forgo chemotherapy to give birth to the child has died, a relative said Thursday.
Sonya Nelson said her niece, Life Lynn DeKlyen, died Wednesday evening at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Life’s mother, Carrie DeKlyen, died Sept. 9, three days after giving birth to her sixth child.
Relatives said Life had been doing better than expected after being born prematurely at 1 pound, 4 ounces (567 grams). Nelson told The Associated Press the baby had good and bad days at the hospital, but “took a turn for the worse” this week.
“We don’t have any answers,” Nelson said, adding “the cards were kind of stacked against her” after being born at 24 weeks and five days into the pregnancy – about “the earliest you can survive.”
“Maybe Carrie needed her,” Nelson said. “It is comforting for us to know that she went home to be with Carrie.”
Carrie DeKlyen declined to participate in a clinical trial or undergo treatment for the brain cancer, because it would have meant ending her pregnancy. Her husband, Nick DeKlyen, has said their decisions were rooted in their Christian faith.
The DeKlyens are from the western Michigan city of Wyoming. They have five other children who range in age from 2 to 18 years old.
“Our deepest sympathies go to the DeKlyen family during this time of sorrow,” hospital officials said in a statement. “Our team is saddened by the losses of Carrie and Life, and we hope their friends and family can find comfort and peace from their memories.”

An Illinois man killed his two sons, set his home on fire then killed himself while his wife was searching frantically for them
TRAGIC: Illinois Father Strangled 2 Sons Before Setting House on Fire and Killing Himself While His Wife Slept
An Illinois man strangled his two sons to death early Tuesday morning and then set his home on fire before killing himself while his wife slept, PEOPLE confirms.
Eric N. Ringenberg, 33, was identified by police in a release provided by the Bloomington Police Department.
Police responded to the fire at about 3 a.m. Tuesday, where they found Eric and his two sons, a 2-year-old and a newborn, dead in the basement. The children were only identified by the initials, CR and RR.
Police say Eric’s wife woke up to the sound of the smoke alarm ringing. She tried to call for help but could not locate any phones in the house, including her cell.
Eric Ringenberg killed children in murder suicide
The mom-of-two desperately tried to locate her husband and children as flames engulfed the home but she suffered smoke inhalation and was forced to flee.
According to authorities, the home had surveillance cameras installed that showed Eric hiding the family’s cell phones, including his wife’s, in a kitchen cabinet.
Autopsies conducted later on Tuesday showed the boys were strangled to death, according to the release. Police say surveillance footage shows Eric’s death was by suicide, and that he intentionally set fire to the home from the basement.
His wife was listed in fair condition late Tuesday, according to WGLT.

He then begins swirling the baby around his head, ignoring her frightened squeals and telling the camera: ‘Astronauts do this exercise during their training.’
As music plays in the background, he at one point balances the baby on the palm of his hands while she stands precariously.
