7-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Shot By Toddler
A 7-year-old girl died in Nashville, Tennesse on Tuesday afternoon, after police say she was shot by a two-year-old child who got a hold of a gun. A man is now wanted for questioning relating to the incident.
Metro police says the girl, identified as Harmony Warfield, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center after suffering a serious injury.
An investigation revealed the girl was accidentally shot by her 2-year-old cousin.
Authorities say that Harmony was inside an apartment with four other relatives—her 29-year-old aunt and three other children – ages 14, 11, and 2.
Metro police say the children were in the kitchen when a shot was heard. The 14-year-old reported that the 2-year-old was holding a pistol. Police say the pistol has yet to be recovered.
Detectives were reportedly told that the aunt’s friend, 27-year-old Anthony Sanders, was outside when the shot was fired, went inside to see what happened, and ran from the area.
Sanders is now wanted for questioning and anyone who sees him is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
Harmony was a student at Purpose Preparatory Academy in Nashville. The school released a statement which said in part, “Our hearts grieve the passing of our very own scholar, Harmony Warfield. Our condolences go out to Harmony’s family, and our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”
It also said “Harmony was a bright child with a positive and caring disposition. She was always smiling and would often walk throughout the hallways with her arms extended ready to hug the next person she saw. She was an avid reader and was always eager to learn new concepts. She loved engaging in activities and field trips with her peers and classmates, and she was a leader in her classroom.”
