Woman Buys Turkey When A Stranger Says He’ll Pay. Then She Realizes Who It Is…
Tis the season of goodwill and thankfully lots of people have been jumping on the ‘random act of kindness’ bandwagon.
Celebrities are no different, and this time Hollywood actor Jon Voight is in the spotlight with his generous act of kindness towards a stranger in Kentucky.
“Home of the Innocents” is a non-profit center in Louisville dedicated to protecting and providing for children who have been abused, abandoned or neglected in Kentucky.
Sydney Gholston, an employee from the center was at Walmart buying six frozen turkeys for the children’s Thanksgiving celebration last week when she met Voight in the store.
Seemingly intrigued by the number of turkeys in her shopping cart, Voight struck up a conversation with Gholston who was oblivious to his identity at the beginning.
Speaking in an interview, Gholston said “I was helping the cashier scan the turkeys. The man started talking to me and he said, ‘you must have a big family.’ I started telling him about our facility and he seemed really interested.”
It was after speaking to the man for a few minutes that she realized he looked familiar to her. “I looked up again and I saw his face really good. I said, you know you look just like Angelina Jolie’s dad and he said, ‘why would I look like that?’” she recalls.
Jon Voight confirmed his identity to a speechless Sydney Gholston and he happily paid for her turkeys. He then posed for a picture which Gholston immediately posted on Home of the Innocents Facebook page.
Voight’s act of generosity and goodwill would have helped to feed around 70 children at the shelter over Thanksgiving. Gholston said “I was excited and blessed and at the right place at the right time,” in relation to the incident.
Meredith Pack, marketing manager for Home of the Innocents has said “We were so appreciative of his kindness! He was very interested in the Home and the services that we provide.”
The picture has been shared almost 5,000 times with around 14,000 likes, giving the charity a much needed publicity boost thanks to Voight’s contribution. Many people have commented on the picture praising Voight for what he did.
“What a kind act starting with Sydney and then ending with Jon. The kids are so deserving. A wonderful act of kindness by you both. God bless all,” said one commentator. While another lady was surprised that he actually goes to Walmart in the first place. “Jon Voight shops at Walmart! Woohoo! Way to go sir, thank you for taking care of those families!!” she said.
