Police say an infant has died after being left alone with three pit bulls and attacked.
The 3-week-old infant girl, identified as Susannah Jean Murray, was left alone in a bouncy chair for about five minutes on Thursday with the dogs in the 1100 block of Kalamazoo Avenue in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
When an adult checked on her, the baby had injuries and one of the dogs, had blood near its mouth. Police confirmed her injuries were consistent with a dog bite to the head.
The mother was reportedly at home at the time, sitting outside on the porch but is not the one who discovered the bloodied child.
The baby was rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery, however, she died the next morning.
No arrests have been made.
The dogs were brought to the Kent County Animal Shelter, where they are under quarantine.
“When you have an infant or children who are unable to defend themselves, basically defenseless, an adult should always be in the company of a child especially a three-week-old,” Grand Rapids Police Department Sgt. Terry Dixon said.
