At birth, the average newborn weighs seven pounds, five ounces

But these days its not uncommon to hear of cases of babies being born weighing close to 20 pounds.

The thought of delivering a baby who weighs eight or nine pounds will leave any expectant mother into a panic, but imagine the thought of delivering one that weighs double that.

A Mexican baby weighed in a 7 Lbs., 11 oz. when he was born 10 months ago, but rapidly grew to weigh as much as a nine-year-old child!

Meet Luis Manuel who lives in Mexico with his family. His mother Isabel said: “After only one month we noticed that clothes did not fit him and we had to dress him in clothes for a one-year-old, and even a two-year-old.

“We saw our baby gain weight so fast. Sometimes, he could not sleep because he felt like he was suffocating due to his weight.”

Luis now weighs 66 pounds and he is not even a year old yet!

Doctors told the boy’s parents they fear Luis could have Prader–Willi syndrome (PWS) – which is an incurable condition that can affect muscle tone, sexual development, and the nervous system and has caused heart attacks in children.

The treatment for PWS is quite expensive and would cost the family more than $525 for each hormone injection.

Sadly, Luis’ family is poverty-stricken and if the PWS diagnosis is confirmed, they will not be able to afford his treatment. So the family has launched a fundraising campaign to help them pay for the medical bills.

Luis’ father, Mario, said that they have opened a bank account for any donations and will keep a detailed record so people are able to see that their money was being spent on Luis’ medical treatment.

“All help given for him, small or big, is good for him,” Mario said.
