An college teacher has been charged with having sex with a 16-year-old as well as two 17-year-olds, plus one count of indecent liberties with a minor.
Erin McAuliffe, from Rocky Mount Prepatory, was arrested on the suspicion of carrying on sexual relationships with 3 male students. Police were called after reported allegations were made of misconduct against the teacher.
Detectives conducted interviews with students and staff at the school, before obtaining a warrant for the 25-year-old’s arrest.
She was held in Carteret County Jail on $20,000 bail with the first court appearance scheduled for June 12.
Police say all the sexual encounters took place off campus, including the offence involving the minor. She was fired on May 4, a day before the police were tipped off about the offence.
Sex with a minor under North Carolina Law may carry a sentence of 51-64 months in prison, and with this being her first reported offence, it’s a possibility that it would not go beyond that.
