Safety Gates and Safety Gate Extensions Recalled By IKEA Due to Fall Hazard

About 80 000 safety gates and safety gate extensions (and another 28,000 sold in Canada) have been recalled by IKEA. These “PATRULL KLÄMMA” safety gates were previously recalled in May 2015.

It has been recalled once again due to 55 reports of incidents worldwide, including 10 injuries which resulted in bruising and cuts. Four of these incidents took place in the U.S which resulted in cuts and bruising to children.

The recall is due to the locking mechanism which can open unexpectedly. This poses a fall hazard to children and other consumers.

The following IKEA safety gates and gate extensions are involved in the recall:

The gates and gate extensions are made of beech wood or steel and plastic and are white in color. The pressure-mounted gates also open both inward and outward.

At the bottom of the safety gate, is a permanent label attached to the metal bar containing “IKEA” and the article number. This recall includes gates with the following article numbers:

The gates were sold in IKEA stores and online at www.ikea-usa.com from August 1995 through June 2016. They retailed between $10 and $60.

Consumers are asked to immediately discontinue using the safety gates and safety gate extensions. They should be returned to any IKEA store for a full refund.
