A California Highway Patrol officer has been charged with possession of child pornography, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.
NEWS: CHP Officer Charged In LA County With Possession Of Child Porn
Robert Tamayo, 37, was charged Thursday with one count each of distribution and possession of child pornography.
He is accused of sharing child porn on a social media app in May, according to a press release from Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. He also allegedly had more than 600 child pornography images on his computers and cell phones, the prosecutor said.
The case was investigated by the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigation after receiving a tip from the FBI. The office said the CHP has cooperated with the investigation.
Tamayo made his initial court appearance Friday and arraignment was set for Dec. 12. If convicted as charged, he faces a possible maximum sentence of five years and eight months in state prison.
Deputy District Attorney Amy Pellman Pentz of the Justice System Integrity Division is prosecuting the case.

NBA Star Steph Curry Stops For Grieving Boy. What He Does Next Leaves Entire Stadium In Tears
Sports stars are some of the biggest celebrities in our world today. Millions of people look up to them, seeing them as their heroes.
Unfortunately, they don’t always live up to the expectations we place on them. They act in violent or offensive ways that knock them off the pedestals where we have placed them.
Thankfully, there are still some athletes who live up to the hype and are committed to living lives worthy of being looked up to.
Stephen Curry is one such player. The NBA star is known not only for his prowess on the court, but for his kindness and integrity.
Never was that more on display than during a recent game between Curry’s team, the Golden State Warriors, and the Dallas Mavericks.
Last week, Bruce Harris, the brother of Mavericks guard Devin Harris, was killed in a car accident. The shocking death rocked their family and Harris decided not to play in Monday’s game as he took time to grieve.
Though Harris did not play, his nine-year-old nephew Brayden did attend the game with him. The team came around him as he worked to process his father’s passing, bringing the young boy back into their locker room and showing him kindness and compassion.
But it was what Curry, a member of the opposing team, did that really had people talking.
Knowing that Brayden looked up to Curry, the star’s younger brother, Seth, who plays for the Mavericks, as well as Warriors guard Shaun Livingston, arranged a meet-up between the two of them before the game started.
As Brayden stood on the sidelines with his uncle, Curry walked over and wrapped his arms around the young boy, seeming to console him and pray with him.

When asked about the emotional moment after the game, Curry said it was hard to know what to say to Brayden.
“It’s obviously sometimes hard to find the right words to say in that situation,” Curry said. “It’s a tough blow to the family. For him at that age, I can’t imagine what he’s going through. But the best thing I can say is lean on his family and to give him that strength to get through this tough time.”
“Nobody can tell him how to feel,” he added. “He just needs to allow himself to get through the best he can with his family at his side and lean on them for strength and support. Hopefully they’ll be there for them. That’s the best I can tell him.”
