Babies are cute little beings, but science says – they should really stay out of your bedroom!
A new study published in the journal Pediatrics says that babies should ideally sleep in their own room after they reach 6 months of age.
Researchers studied sleeping habits of 230 first time Moms when their babies were ages 4, 9, 12 and 30 months old.
Babies at 9 months of age who slept on their own got 40 minutes more sleep than babies who slept with their Mother. Those same babies who slept more at 9 months old also slept 45 minutes longer at 30 months of age.
The study’s author, therefore advises parents to “move your babies out of your room after 6 months.”
This is despite national guidelines which suggest putting babies to sleep in their own room by 12 months.
The study’s author did say however mention that the study had limitations – in terms of race, where most of the women participants were white and earned over $75,000.
