According to researchers, the average newborn baby weighs 7.7 pounds. Most women would have that in the back of their minds when about to give birth give or take a pound or two. However, for one mom her reality was different and she gave birth to a baby weighing a whopping 13 pounds 5 ounces.
Chrissy Corbitt is the mother in question and she gave birth to her baby Carleigh last month. Both Chrissy and her husband Larry couldn’t believe it when their little girl was born weighing roughly 6 kilos.
Speaking to ABC News, Larry explained that baby Carleigh was born early. “Her due date wasn’t until May 20 or 21. She could’ve been a way bigger baby than what she was. It was crazy. Chrissy wasn’t gaining any weight for the past 3 weeks of her pregnancy. It was just Carleigh gaining weight,” he said.

Recalling the birth Chrissy told the station that, “It looked they pulled a toddler out of my belly. She’s so big. When the doctor was pulling her out of me I just start hearing them all laughing and excited in the operating room. They were throwing out numbers and when they showed her to me and said 13.5 I couldn’t believe it.”
Carleigh is over twice the size her parents thought she would be and as a result, all the clothes and nappies they had bought in preparation for her arrival don’t fit. “She’s like a 6-month-old baby. We even contacted Pampers and Huggies to help us out because everything we got to prepare is just out the door. None of it fits. She’s in size 3 diapers. The clothes she had on yesterday was a 9-month outfit. She’s huge,” Larry explains.
Chrissy is somewhat used to carrying big babies as her first two children weighed 9 and 10 pounds respectively, but Carleigh definitely surprised her and the doctors to say the least.
Larry spoke about the scenes in the delivery room when Carleigh was coming into the world. “It was so funny because she had a C-section so all the blankets were over her so you couldn’t see what was going on. The doctor said, ‘Oh my gosh, she’s going to be 15-pounds.’ I remember the doctor saying, ‘I don’t think this baby is going to end. Are there two of them?’” he said.
Nevertheless, Larry and Chrissy were thrilled with their big bundle of joy. “Her cheeks were so chunky and she was just so fat. She was so gorgeous, of course,” Larry said.

“She’s just filled with rolls. She’s just a big squishy baby. She’s so adorable. I had no idea she was going to be so popular. It’s been a great experience and I can’t wait to look back on this and share it with her to show her she became a celebrity overnight,” Chrissy said.
Larry and Chrissy have three children now and have decided to stop with Carleigh after her show-stopping entrance into the world. “That’s enough for me. We’re going out with a bang,” Chrissy mused.
