As a parent, this post was rather hard to read.
Parenting really isn’t the easiest job in the world, it’s possibly the hardest.
We easily get caught up to in our daily routines that we forget to stop and focus on what’s important in life.
BUT (a big but) we really have to remember that our children are always looking at us, listening, and also learning from us.
Recently, a teacher in Louisiana shared a note that was written by one of her students, and this should really be a lesson for parents everywhere.
The note answered the following question: What invention do you wish had never been invented?
The second-graders answer was just so eye-opening.
His Teacher, Jen Beason, shared the 2nd grader’s note in a Facebook post (that has now been made private).
The teacher had asked her students to write about an invention that they wish had never been invented.
One child wrote, “I don’t like the phone because my [parents] are on their phone every day. A phone is sometimes a really bad [habit]. I hate my mom’s phone and I wish she never had one.”
The saddest thing about it is that Beason said in the post that she had 4 different students say the same thing – that they wished cell phones had never been invented.
We are always talking about screen time for kids.
But do we actually ever take a step back and consider our own behavior when it comes to phones?
A 2017 study that was published in the journal Child Development says that “Heavy parent digital technology use has been associated with suboptimal parent-child interactions.”
This is such a tough topic.
Everyone is busy and has a constant need to stay in touch with the world, but it’s so important to remember that our children are always watching, and taking in what we say and do.
What are your thoughts on this?
