Have you seen and heard the parody on Adele’s Hello from the Other Side for stressed out moms? It’s hilarious… yet so fitting!
The appropriately named spoof – Hello from the Mother side – Emmy Mills vents about the stress of motherhood and her desire for a glass of vino!
Mills screams out “Hello from the mother side. I must’ve tried a thousand times to tell her this homework is really breaking my heart.” I’m sure many Moms can relate to the brawls of helping our kids with their homework and keeping the household afloat!
In the song, Mills acknowledges her preference for red wine, singing, “Hello from the mother side. I think I might break down and cry, because I love my children but I don’t want anymore. Can somebody pass me the pinot noir?”
As Moms, we are often so busy taking care of everyone else in the family that we sometimes put ourselves last on the list. There’s homework, laundry, cooking, cleaning …. It’s important to remember to take care of yourself though and to accept help from others!
Here are a few tips to help you cope with stress through your busy schedule
- Take care of your body – it’s the only one that you have! Get plenty of sleep, do regular exercise and maintain a healthy diet. That way you will have more energy to burn, something which raising children requires a lot of.
- Get your priorities straight! Spending time with your children and showing them you love them by listening and encouraging them will have a more desired impact than having a spotless kitchen.
- Take a Mommy-time-out – Put up a “do not disturb” sign on your bedroom door. Read a book or listen to some relaxing music. Take five to ten minutes just to unwind.
- Don’t be scared to ask for help. Ask your husband or friends and family to help you with some tasks like babysitting, cooking, cleaning, shopping and homework. A little assistance here and there can help take the burden off.
- Practice good time management. Diarise time with the kids, time with your spouse, time with your girlfriends and most importantly time for yourself. Learn how to say NO to requests that interfere with quality time.
Lastly, remember to keep your sense of humour just like Emmy Mills. Lighten the mood by laughing whenever you can!
