There are so many big decisions we have to make as parents.
Some of these have solid evidence and there’s a concrete answer to but others we have to go without gut to determine what the best course of action is.
Sometimes we default to what we know, but other times we seek the advice of other parents who have been there done that.
However, when it comes to live-long decisions, something like circumcision that changes the body forever, that decision has to be made with quite a bit of thought.
But then you get some parents that don’t need to spend time thinking about it. They know their decision, either way, the moment they find out they’re carrying a little boy.
At other times, there is a lot of time discussing with a partner. Reading and researching. And relying on the advice of the trusted medical professionals in our child’s care circle.
I’ve not actually come across any parents who are not passionate about the choice, either way. There are people who strongly are for it, and others who are strongly against it.
That’s why it’s one of the biggest debates among boy Moms
But for one mom, who was not shy about sharing her stance on male circumcision and she posted all about it on social media.
There I nows a post that’s going viral on Instagram, that no matter where you stand on the issue of circumcision, is hard to read.
Posted by Black Moms Blog, the post shows a little boy who looks to be strapped down by his arms and his legs.
The post begins with a very necessary “trigger warning” before going into the discussion of circumcision.
“Our community is very expressive when it comes to things like piercing a baby’s ear,” the caption reads.
“What are your thoughts on circumcision? Most moms aren’t in the room when it happens.”
The post then goes into a repost description written by Reena, another Instagram user, and it’s very, very graphic.
“You take a freshly born little boy and you strap him down into an apparatus that holds his legs apart. It’s called the Circumstraint. There are Velcro cuffs to keep his arms and legs in place so he can’t move while you’re slicing his genitals. “
The post then goes further into very graphic detail on what goes on in each step for a little baby boy to have a circumcision, in their experience.
It’s a very hard read, so if you are going to read it, please be mindful of that.
This is also where the newborn’s screaming becomes so shrill and heartwrenching, where he screams until his lungs have nothing more to offer so his mouth becomes stuck in a silent, breathless, crimson-faced gape of anguish,” one part of the caption reads.
It’s sad, and of course, being as detailed and graphic as it was — the comments section lit up.
There were some who totally said this was their experience too when they witnessed a circumcision take place.
And others were very vocal about this description not being the case.
The post has received over 2,000 comments on it, just on Instagram, and they are heated.
One person seems to be going through the comments and replying to anyone horrified that this isn’t really what happens.
“Please. Please talk to a Professional first,” the Instagram user says. “This is not what happens to them it does not hurt”
Another Instagram user is completely saddened to read by that description that there is only minimal pain relief given.
“I can’t imagine them just getting a cream,” they write. “That’s horrible! All the places I’ve worked we never used a topical. In that case, of course it’s torture for babies!”
Others are saying that it is not that bad and for them it was the right decision.“As I stated, it is a parents choice to make for their own children based on hopefully researched information before hand,” another user writes. “This has already been done with my own children and it was the right decision for us. We don’t regret it. Thanks for the healthy debate. Have a good night and sleep well.”
Other parents, who were not in the room when their son was circumcised are upset.
“Jesus! My son is now 2 years old and his was done when he was 2 days old,” an Instagram user writes. “I feel horrible because I never looked at how the procedure was done and the first thing I saw was this picture and I’m darn near to tears,” another user added. “I feel horrible but I will say after it was done he didn’t seem to be any different than prior to having it done and was fine thereafter. But if my next child is a boy (praying for a girl) then I will definitely have to rethink this or be in the room with him.”
What do you think?
