This week a heartbreaking story emerged of a loyal family dog saving a baby from a fire.
A Baltimore family’s dog is being hailed as a hero for saving their eight-month-old daughter’s life. However, the dog didn’t make it.
Erika Poremski went to her car Sunday night when she turned back to find her house engulfed in flames.
She could hear her 8-month-old daughter Viviana inside.
Firefighters got into the house quickly and came back out with Viviana. They found Poremski’s dog, Polo, in the room with the baby – he was covering her with his body.
“That way nothing got to her. She only had burns on her side because of it,” Poremski said. “He stayed with her the whole time in the bedroom and wouldn’t even come downstairs to get out the door.”
Paramedics were able to revive Viviana, who had severe burns on her body, but Polo did not make it.
“He was my first baby, and now I lost him. I’m just praying I don’t lose her, it’s all I have,” Poremski said. “It just happened so fast, I just don’t understand it.”
Poremski said that she is incredibly grateful for the support she’s received, even from strangers.
A GoFundMe page raised nearly $5,000 in less than nine hours.
Viviana’s condition is day to day.
