A second-grade teacher at Wappingers Central School District is facing child pornography charges.
Steven L. Schwartz, a 53-year-old Town of Poughkeepsie resident, has been charged with six felony counts of possessing a sexual performance by a child, state police confirmed.
“The District is aware that Steven Schwartz, a teacher at Fishkill Plains Elementary School, was apparently arrested today with regard to a number of charges,” said Wappingers Superintendent Jose Carrion.
Schwartz has been a district teacher for “around 30 years,” said Wappingers board President Peggy Kelland.
On January 26, state police started investigating “inappropriate comments made by a teacher to a student” in the Wappingers district, said state police spokesman Aaron Hicks.
The incident was reported to have taken place at Fishkill Plains Elementary.
The investigation which was conducted by police and the Dutchess County Child Advocacy Center, with help from the district — revealed that “Schwartz possessed images of child pornography on personally owned electronic devices,” Hicks said.
The district has been “conducting its own investigation regarding Mr. Schwartz and has been cooperating and working closely with the New York State Police on these matters,” Carrion said. “Mr. Schwartz remains on administrative leave from Fishkill Plains where he will remain pending the conclusion of the district’s investigation.
“As this is a personnel matter, the district cannot comment further at this time but will take all necessary steps to protect the health and safety of its students while respecting the rights of all involved,” Carrion added.
Schwartz was arraigned in the Town of Poughkeepsie Court and sent to Dutchess County Jail on a $20,000 bail or $40,000 bond.
The teacher is due back in court on Wednesday afternoon.

It is actually quite emotional and wven if you don’t like the Kardashian Jenners , you have to admit this video is pretty cool.
It really is special that she was able to keep this special time to herself and welcome her baby into the world with a sense of calmness and happiness.
Now that baby is here, she’s happy to share that the baby girl has been given a name. And it’s pretty unique.
The Baby’s name is Stormi.
The photo of the baby name reveal is quite adorable too. Tiny little baby fingers on her perfectly manicured thumb is just pretty.
