The body of 3-year-old Madelyn Binkley was found at the Union Street Boat Ramp according to the Chief of River Rescue Frank Egresitz Sr.
Search and rescue crews found Madelyn’s body nearly three days after the boat capsized. Fish and Boat crews, as well as, volunteers have been on and off the river since the boat capsized. Crews were still searching, but had to call off the search at 4:30 p.m. due to weather.
Madelyn’s body was recovered a few hours later at 8:30 p.m.
Officials did not disclose what led to the recovery of the toddler’s body.
Officials say that the family of 3 and their dog were out on the family fishing boat when it capsized on the Susquehanna River near the Dock Street Dam in Harrisburg late Monday night.
Madelyn’s father, Cody Binkley, was able to get to shore and call for help.
The father was taken to the hospital and treated for hypothermia. He was released from the hospital on Wednesday.
He is the only survivor.
The body of Mary Bredbenner, the child’s mother, was found a short time later a few miles away down river near the Turnpike Bridge.
The Coroner Graham Hetrick completed the autopsy on Bredbenner Thursday. The cause of death was ruled accidental fresh water drowning, according to the coroner.
