There are some are rare conditions associated with pregnancy which we never hear about. One of which is called fetes in fetu.
A baby is now making headlines for being born “pregnant” with his own twin.
The boy, is technically not actually pregnant, as he doesn’t have a uterus. but he was born with the condition where he was born with parts of another baby inside him.
Typically these body parts are found in the newborn’s “retroperitoneal area,” such as the abdomen. The chances of fetus in fetu are so rare – about 1 in 500,000 births – and this case in India is just the 200th on record.
The fetu twin inside of this newborn was detected by doctors during a prenatal scan, with the plan to remove the parts following childbirth. Bones, arms, legs, and a brain were found, however, are not considered a “functional” human being.
Dr. Neena Nichlani, who delivered the child, referred to the patient’s condition as “a case of monozygotic twin pregnancy sharing single placenta, where one fetus wraps itself around and envelops the other and robs the host of its nutrition.”
Fetus in fetu can prove fatal for the “host” baby as he or she is sharing a nutrition from a single chord, but the child in this case, is reportedly going to be just fine.
The mass was removed successfully and both the Mother and child are recovering well
