An 8-year-old girl is suspected of killing an infant at a home daycare center in Michigan, police have said.
Muskegon Police Chief Jeffrey Lewis said the body of 1-year-old Korey Brown was found on Friday morning when his mother went to pick him and two other kids up from Keysha Keepers Daycare.
At least one adult and four children were at the daycare center, but police are considering an unidentified 8-year-old girl a suspect. A 5-year-old child reportedly witnessed what happened.
The victim’s mother, Bryanna Reasonover said that she had left her son and two other kids at the daycare Thursday night so she could go to work and when she arrived on Friday morning to get the kids, Brown was in a playpen, unresponsive.
Reasonover said that she saw bruises and bite marks on her son’s face and fingers.
“It’s very frustrating to not know what happened, to know he was suffering when all he probably wanted was his mommy,” she said.
Workers at the daycare had no idea that something was wrong with the infant. Authorities said the children were left alone for an unknown period of time.
Police believe that Brown started crying at some point and the young girl stepped in to help. However, it’s not clear if the girl purposely killed the baby or if it was an accident.
The girl is currently being interviewed to find out what happened.
