A driver in Newport, Del. is in custody after a one-year-old girl was struck in a hit-and-run on New Castle County, Delaware.
Police were called to the 6900 block of Lancaster Pike around 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning.
Investigators say the driver of a silver Mazda hit the child while leaving a home on the block, then fled the scene.
That driver was located shortly before noon and then taken into custody without incident, police say. The driver’s name has not been released at this stage.
The girl was taken to the hospital in a stable condition.
Police say the incident remains under investigation. Initially, authorities said the driver hit the girl intentionally, however, there are now conflicting reports as to whether that was certainly the case.
