Dad Walks Terminally Ill Daughter Down The Aisle

The bond between a father and daughter is a special one. From the day a little girl is born, many fathers dream about the day they will get to walk their daughter down the aisle.

When Andy learned that his sixteen month old daughter, Poppy-Mai had a fatal brain tumour he realised that he will be missing out on so many beautiful moments with her, one being the wedding of her dreams.

Andy wasn’t going to let her lose out on this special moment.

Heartbreakingly, doctors have said that Poppy-Mai will not live for much longer, after an undiagnosed tumour on her kidney spread to her lung and brain.

When the toddler was not eating and was in pain when walking, her parents took Poppy-Mai to see their GP, but her symptoms were put down to teething.

Poppy-Mai’s health started deteriorating though and after several misdiagnoses, further testing showed that she had malignant tumours in her kidney and lungs.

After a month of chemotherapy treatment, tests finally revealed the very rare, aggressive cancer had already spread to her brain. Without continuing any treatment, she was given just two days to live.

Her parents were heartbroken after the news and felt that they had already been robbed of precious time in hospital when she could have been home with her family.

That’s when they decided to take her home and they made sure that before she passed on, she was able to enjoy one last milestone – a wedding.

They dressed her in a christening gown and Poppy-Mai was walked down the aisle by her two older brothers as she got to “marry” her father in an unrehearsed wedding.  Naturally, the entire family was in tears.

The family now cherishes every moment they have left with her, but they know the end is near.
