Many people fear going to the Dentist and a lot of the time some form of sedative such as nitrous oxide, is needed to get the person to relax.

A clever clinic in Illinois, known as the Paediatric Dentistry of Northbrook, has come up with an even better way of getting their patients to relax.

Dogs are known to be man’s best friend and have a way of making people relax so the clinic decided to welcome a four legged member of staff to do just that – and he’s name is Jojo.

Jojo is a trained comfort dog who is happily putting patients at ease. When patients sit down and have their teeth cleaned, they can calmly pat Jojo.

According to Jojo’s co-workers, she’s doing a really good job and it appears that previously nervous patients are excited to come in for their appointments.

Has your child paid the Dentist a visit yet? What is the right age?

Although most American children only visit the dentist for the first time well over the age of two, it’s actually way over the age recommended by Dental and medical professionals.

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) actually recommends that a child visit the dentist by the age of one or within six months after the eruption of the first tooth.

Here are some tips for keeping your childrens teeth healthy

  • You can start keeping your childs teeth healthy even before he starts teething – to clear away harmful bacteria run a clean, damp washcloth over the gums.
  • As soon as your baby gets teeth, brush them with an infant toothbrush. Use water and a small of fluoride toothpaste.
  • When your child is about two years of age, he or she should learn to spit while brushing.
  • Supervise children younger than six years of age while brushing, as they are more likely to swallow toothpaste.
