Baby Dies After Being Left In Hot Car By Her Father

As temperatures soared in Melissa, Texas on Tuesday, a 6-month-old baby girl has died after being left in a hot car for a prolonged period.

The girl’s father, Michael Thedford, has been arrested and charged with manslaughter. Thedford reportedly dropped off his two other children at daycare and returned home with the baby at 9 a.m. She had apparently spiked a fever the night before and could not go to daycare.

Police were told that he completely forgot about the little girl in the vehicle and went inside the house to go to sleep. He then woke up three hours later and then only and discovered her in the van.

According to court records, the father said that when he found her, her body was extremely hot.

He then attempted to cool her by putting her in a refrigerator, before calling 911. Thedford and his wife also attempted to perform CPR on the girl, but it was already too late.

Paramedics and firefighters responded to the call around 1.30 pm at the Thedford home and were later followed by detectives who questioned the family.

According to court records, the father was arrested and booked into the Colin County Jail but was released on $20 000 bond the same day.

Omg. You would think, with things like this happening in the news people would THINK ‘ok I dropped off 2 of my 3 kids better be sure I remember the baby’. Especially if she was sick that would be the one on my mind the most. That poor poor baby. They need HARSHER punishments for people like this. If you’re that “exhausted” which ALL parents are, take off a shoe and put it in the back seat so you don’t forget. That sweet little baby had a moron for a Father.

I can understand how this happens. We have our routines and its hard to get out of those. So normally he would drop all three kids off.

The odd part here is why are the kids going to daycare when the father is home sleeping?

Ok…if mom was home and knew the baby couldn’t go to daycare because she had a fever the night before why didn’t she ask where the baby was when he came in from taking the other 2…..and why did the baby go with dad if mom was home…hmmm.

Wow, this is so upsetting. I think all parents should be required to take a few days class before the baby is born. I also think that the class should give advice and tips on the basic/common sense that some people honestly lack. Im not perfect but before i had my kids you better believe i researched and yes i did a few classes. So sad, RIP Little angel.

He should have not been released on such a low bail amount! How can you forget your baby? Seriously!? He needs to pay for him crimes, this poor baby girl suffered painfully for an extensive amount of time because this pathetic excuse of a father. Action needs to be taken! Being a parent my self, I have never forgot about my child, how could anyone?? That obviously shows you do not care about them because they are not in your mind. Your children are your top priority, not to go home and sleep! We live in a sick sad world. This is so unfortunate,God bless you baby girl. Please people do not have sex if you do not plan on taking the responsibility of being a parent

I have never understood how this happens. I would never ever forgot my child in a car. I constantly think about my son and his well being, especially if he isn’t with me. How does it not cross your mind? What a shame. Poor baby 🙁

      June 24, 2016 at 2:27 pm

It could happen to me or Brad. I worry about it often. If Brad has Eliza and Cael and I have Rohen, I’m worried I’ll forget I have him, because he makes no noise in the car, and I don’t normally have 1 kid. I have 3 or 0. If Brad is dropping one of them off on his way to work or something, which isnt normal for him, I worry he’d forget and just go to work. It’s when your doing something out of the ordinary, out of the way you usually do it that it can happen.

Exactly. People are so judgemental. Nobody expects this to happen. It has happened to all sorts of people…. A cop, a pediatrician… There is a psychological explanation. Does anyone know why he went home to go to sleep? Maybe he works the 3rd shift. Please stop judging and show compassion. Remind your friends with small children, especially in the summer. Fight for change. Devices for cars. GM is doing it for the Acadia…

I’ve sat here for almost an hour rereading this article. Having 4 children of my own and reading such a horrifying story of more negligence toward children, leaves me so full of anxiety and disgust when I think of the individuals we have as ‘parents’, of today! Men are not as together a women are, by far! There is no room for such an excuse. Shock- please! Forgetting your kid out of routine- next! 4 kids! I’m a young mother at that, 2 consecutive car accidents, followed by 2 L5/S1 back surgeries… still have 4 healthy kids. Carelessness/Selfishness-OUT! Love and selflessness-IN! RIP Baby! No more pain!

How can you forget your baby!???? Honestly, how can you? I never have, my daughter is the first thing on my mind. Poor baby had to suffer because of this sick creature. I wish there was a feature in a car that would alert authorities when temperatures are to high and there’s someone in the vehicle. Every summer parents to this to innocent children and make up an excuse they “forgot them”. I’m disgusted and I feel like throwing up with sadness.
